Essential Competencies

Developing Trust Relationships

Trust is a vital aspect of any relationship, whether it is personal or institutional. Lack of commitment and consistency in communication is one factor that hinders developing a trustworthy relationship (Martin et al., 2017). The conducted case study in Landon High School portrays distrust of Mr. Rogers, the staffs and the community. The first distrust scenario is when Landon High School teachers fail to believe and trust that their students can excel and pursue a college education. Secondly, despite being in his second year as LHS principal, Mr. Rogers has to consistently prove to his faculty and staff that he can manage the school. Notably, there are several themes depicted in this case study, such as trust. The theme of trust is consequential since it pushes an individual into keeping promises, respecting and honoring agreements as well as telling the truth.

Leading in the Realization of a Vision

Several obstacles hinder the realization of dreams, missions and visions of an institution. In the Landon High School case study, misplaced priorities are the biggest obstacle to achieving the schools' goals and vision (Martin, 2019). Mr. Rogers fails to prioritize the curriculum change of the school instead focuses on climate improvement. It is imperative to note that as a leader, Mr. Rogers ought to have arranged the premises activities in the order of urgency. The theme of leadership is depicted in the case study. Leadership enhances the productivity of individuals in their place of work.

Making Shared Decisions

Lack of persuasion from Mr. Rogers is the main hindrance of shared decisions. Notably, Mr. Rogers fails to convince his staff to accept his decisions (Martin et al., 2017). Besides, Mr. Rogers creates a platform where teachers make arguments based on what they have seen or experienced. Precisely, the school administration lacks the validity of showing how change should be and why. The theme of decision making is applied to making shared decision competency.

Communicating Effectively

Workplace conflict is the main reason behind ineffective communication between Mr. Rogers and the school staff. All seem to be unwell between LHS and the representative of Kings Community College. The conflict becomes the main focus of the Principals' meeting with the staff members (Martin et al., 2017).

Resolving Conflicts

Inability to understand and solve problems in an organization is a threat to prosperity. Mr. Rogers ignored conflicts within LHS and the community; hence he directed all his efforts in the wrong focuses (Martin, 2019)

Motivating and developing others

Wrong motivational tools are the main reason for the unproductivity in Landon High School. Mr. Rogers uses Kings Community College comments to motivate his staff, which is highly criticized (Martin, 2019). Mr. Rogers fails terribly in motivating his employees in unique and special ways, such as building science laboratories in LHS.

Essential competencies such as communication, decision-making, trustworthiness, employees' orientation, leadership, and conflict solving are the main issues behind Landon High School academic failure (Martin, 2019). Notably, essential competencies such as effective communication and good leadership are vital to any organization. Distrust in LHS affected not only the students but also the school fraternity at large. The teachers failed to trust their students' capabilities of performing exemplary and attending great colleges such as KCC (Falender & Shafranske, 2020). Some teachers raised arguments such as the students lacking a role model since most of their parents didn't have secondary education. Others argued that even if some students excelled, they would never join colleges due to lack of money, while others speculated that student's abuse drugs hence their poor performances.

Mr. Rogers noted that Landon High School lacked premises such as labs, which could be the reason for students' failure. However, it is imperative to note that other causes behind students' failure to excel academically (Martin et al., .2019). To better understand the root causes of academic failure, there is a need to look at the school's performance in the previous years. By so doing, precise data will be produced and determine whether the school administration has a problem.

Additionally, Landon High School's academic failure is caused by a lack of trust within the fraternity members. The teachers have little or no faith in their students, and Mr. Rogers (Martin et al., 2017). Despite Mr. Rogers's efforts to build a trusting environment, the staff have continuously made it hard for him. However, there is a possible solution to this problem. Trusting and believing in one another is a crucial start at Landon High School. Notably, believing that anyone can achieve great things will help people regard themselves highly (Strokes, 2016). The solution of uniting and believing in one another is very workable since it has more advantages than disadvantages. Secondly, orienting workers will boost their working morale and as a consequence there in excellent results will be produced (Stokes, 2016). Effective communication will help resolve problems, promote team building, create conducive working environments, and increase engagement and productivity.

Reflective Response on Essential Competencies and Case Study Analysis

Research conducted on the Landon High School performance showed that teaching is a crucial profession. Besides, both the teachers, staff and students have a vital role play in an institution's performance. A recent study was on Landon High School showed that the school performance is deteriorating day by day despite a new principal Mr. Rogers (Falender & Shafranske, 2017). However, a case study conducted within LHS showed that the root cause of academic failure is a poor application of essential competencies. Essential competencies such as effective communication, shared decision making, leadership, trustworthy and conflict resolutions are the organization's backbone.

Essential competencies play a vital role in the overall performance of an institution such as a school. Anyone would agree that the Landon High School case study is a true reflection of society. People fail to trust and believe in one another and instead spent time disagreeing rather than making amends. In the Landon High School case study, the institution's principal is not trusted by the staff and the community; hence spend a lot of time seeking their approval. However, the root cause for academic failure in Landon High Schools can be caused by other factors such as indiscipline (Falender & Shafranske, 2017). It is crystal clear that lack of discipline goes hand in hand with some negativity. If student ventures into drug and substance abuse, their performance drops drastically.

Additionally, peers' comments and point of view play a vital role in identifying the primary problem. An individual might observe that the Landon High school teachers were disoriented, losing their focus and zeal. Coincidentally, motivation and appreciation of workers are one of the essentials competencies. The Discovery of the root cause in the LHS case study is a simple task since everything is well illustrated from how students interact with their teachers and the community and the relationship between the LHS fraternity. Trusting and believing in one another, sharing decisions, people's motivation, resolving conflicts and embracing effective communication are some of the best solutions in eradicating academic problems in LHS.
