Global warming describes increasing temperatures in the earth. There is evidence of global warming is clear, starting with the rise in global temperatures. The recoded increase in the average surface temperature is 1.62 degrees Fahrenheit. 2016 was the warmest year recorded for over the past thirty-five years. Warning oceans is the other evidence with an increase of 0.4 degrees Fahrenheit since 1969. The ice sheets have been shrinking with the increase in temperatures, and that has been increasing the water levels in water bodies. There has been extreme weather recorded in places such as the United States such as excessive winds (Hall, Lewis Jr, & Ellsworth, 2018). Other evidence is seen with ocean acidification, decreasing arctic sea ice, reduction in snow cover and glacial retreat.

The most compelling evidence is the increase in sea levels. It is mostly seen in the coastal areas, and studies show that in the last century, there has been an eight-inch increase. Though the rise is slight per year, the coastal regions can feel the change with most of their activities being affected by the changes in coastal waters (Nerem, Beckley, Fasullo, Hamlington, Masters, & Mitchum, 2018). There are satellites established to measure the sea level on a monthly basis, and data shows that there has been an increase throughout the years.

Human activity plays a significant role in global change and acts as a controlling factor over a different timescale. The industrial activities have increased with modern civilization. More carbon dioxide is being released in the air and research indicates that the levels have increased in the last 150 years, from 280 parts/million to 400 parts/million (Hoegh-Guldberg, Jacob, Taylor, Bindi, Brown, Camilloni, & Guiot, 2018). Other harmful gases released include nitrous oxide and methane, and they are responsible for the temperature increase. Other human activities responsible for global warming are the use of a vehicle due to the fumes they remove, mining, and burning coal. Some farming activities are also responsible for global warming due to the fumes from the farming chemicals.
