In 75-100 words each, analyze the results of your surveyed information. Include the following in your reflection:

Can any of the questions be misunderstood? Why or why not?

None of the questions in the survey can be misunderstood. This is due to the concise nature of the information being sought from the respondent. The respondent is introduced to the topic of the survey right at the onset in the terming of the survey as a ‘Facebook Analysis.’ This title prepares the respondent for the kind of questions that they are about to be subjected to. The second reason it is highly unlikely for the questions to be misunderstood is its correlation with Facebook, phenomenon that the respondent is already very familiar with. The terminology is therefore relatable and therefore unlikely to be misunderstood by the respondent.

Are the questions biased or slanted? Why or why not?

The questions are neither biased nor slanted. This because the end goal of the researcher is to objectively extract certain information about the respondent’s behavior in the social platform. A biased line of questioning would compromise the integrity of the data collected by the researcher since the answers offered by the respondents will be geared towards the biased dimension fronted by the researcher. To ensure that the information being sought by the researcher is free of manipulation the questions were made as free of bias as possible such that the responses collected will be accurate and comparable among the respondents.

Is the wording of the questions leading or misleading? Why or why not?

The wording of the questions can be regarded as leading to a certain degree. This is undertaken to internally ensure the honesty and integrity of the respondent’s answers. Starting from the basic question of the frequency of use of the social network, the researcher structures the question such that they can delve deeper into much greater details as pertains to the activity and to the behavior of any respondent within the social community. The inclusion of leading questions also helps in the transition of the questions from one aspect of user behavior to another quite easily. The wording of the questions is however not misleading since the objectivity of the information must be maintained.

Is the best response format used? Why or why not?

The best response format is used for this survey. The method uses multiple choices which enhances the ease with which the survey questions could be answered. It allows the respondent to simply answer the question by highlighting the response fitting. The respondent prefers the shortest method of answering questions and aims at completing the questionnaire quickly before moving on to their daily obligations. This makes the response format the best in enabling a great response from the respondent. The response format is also structured to allow for comparability and ease of analysis of the data obtained from the research questions.

Were there questions about which someone may lie to appear more desirable?

Yes, there were questions about which someone may lie to appear more desirable. The nature of the research questions sometimes imposes on the respondents the need for social approval especially in the way they answer certain questions. There is certain sensitive information that the respondents might feel compelled to answer in a certain way that fits with the society’s conventions. The questions about happiness on reading friend’s activities can be categorized as that type of question. It is faced with these questions that the respondent might feel compelled to lie to appear more desirable. Consequently, this survey also had a wide range of questions that would have compelled the respondent to appear more desirable.

Why are the questions worded the way they are? (Refer to the Marlowe-Crowne Social Desirability Scale on page 111 of the textbook.)

Following the Marlowe-Crowne Social Desirability Scale, one can conclude that the wording of the questions is made as it has been in order to reduce the propensity of the respondents to give socially desirable responses. The wording is therefore meant to repress the need of the subjects to give socially acceptable answers which have been associated with largely compromising the responses given. The MC-SDS has an impact in the way the subjects will respond to certain questions. The strong link between the survey and the social ties of the respondents make it important to take this into account and increase the accuracy of the data obtained from the survey.
