Women make a slightly higher percentage of the world’s population as compared to their male counterparts. However, their presence is not felt in government offices considering the society's perspective on women.
Is it important to have women represented in all branches of government?
The modern age has witnessed more and more women push for the gender equality agenda to allow women to be served in all branches of the government. This, however, has not been achieved, but it is important to have women in Legislature, Judiciary and the Executive since they possess the same capabilities as does their male counterparts (IPR, 2016). So as to achieve this, a lot of lobbying needs to be done to ensure that the society changes its perspectives on women in power.

Why are fewer women than men elected to political office?
We live in a patriarchal society where men are tasked with the role of making major decisions while women are supposed to be submissive and quiet homemakers. Women who try to venture out into politics are viewed as bad eggs and are carefully scrutinized and despised (IPR, 2016).
Is it that women are less interested in running?
Women are interested in running for leadership positions, but there is fear of being branded as rebellious and out of place. Women who volunteer themselves for the election to such offices risk having their closets opened and are judged more harshly as compared to their male counterparts (IPR, 2016). Consequently, they opt to stay away from running for office than have their names tarnished.
Is it that voters are more likely to vote for a man? Why?
This being a patriarchal society, most voters including the women end up voting in for men since they are a common belief that men are cut out for this job. In addition, women are considered their own enemies and would rather vote for men than their fellow womenfolk
