Food security among college students has been reducing in the past few decades, making campus life almost unbearable for the empty stomach students. This challenge has been a consequence of several factors that have explicitly and implicitly altered the food sector among students. To fight this peril of food insecurity in college campuses, Joseph Williams, a senior editor at U.S.News, wrote an article that drew a bead on the issue.

Poverty in families with college students is (according to statistics) a significant reason that the food insecurity cases are increasing. One logos-oriented ground that Williams 2019 puts across as a primary source of the food insecurity that is being experienced in colleges around the country is the fact that many students from poor backgrounds are enrolling in college. The claim is made by Government Accountability Officer (GAO) after a review of 29 campus-based surveys and studies. To warrant this claim made by the GAO report was data showing that food insecurity is only prevalent in college campuses and trade schools that have a high enrollment of students from families below the federal poverty line. Students without a solid financial background that have enrolled in colleges increased from 28 percent in 1996 to 39 percent in 2016, clearly showing that the demographic aspect has contributed to the food insecurity increase being witnessed in colleges.

From an ethos point of view, the author argues that the college cost has outpaced government aid for needy students in colleges. Though no viable data to back up the claim, he argues that the cost of life on campus, together with college fee, has considerably increased, making the federal and state grants barely enough to cater for needy students. The claim holds water as the government aid has not improved, yet the college fee is increasing, and so the cost of living for a student who doesn’t have any income inflow.

In conclusion, the menace of food insecurity in colleges can be pinned down to low financial background for the victims and not enough government aid to curb the situation. To help the victims of food insecurity in a college campus, the government should provide enough assistance to students from a poor background to prevent food insecurity which affect not only their education but also other aspects of their life.
