In the film of Girl, Interrupted, Winona Ryder with the character name Susanna is portrayed with Borderline Personality Disorder as a mental illness. Susanna bonds with different characters with distinct illness: Daisy with Bulimia, Lisa; sociopathic personality condition, Janet as Anorexic and Georgia a pathological liar. It is therefore prudent to identify how the film portrays Susan’s condition and the rest of the disorders affecting other characters.

Borderline Personality Disorder is the mental illness portrayed in the movie of Girl, Interrupted. I like the fact that the author of the film uses distinct mental disorders like pathological lying and the sociopathic personality disorder to illustrate his characters in the movie. I dislike the fact that Susanna, the main character, is bound to painful and fearing situations throughout the film.

The mental illness as at the scene where Georgia is quarreling Susanna threatening to have her jailed by his prominent father (CIA) makes the film stigmatizing. Susanna walked out in lots of panics and dramatized over what to do. The portrayal of Borderline Personality Disorder is consistent with the description of the book. In the movie, Susanna is repeatedly agitated and self-destructive over her peers, her life and her surroundings. The symptoms of the disorder correspond with those recommended by the class textbook and these include suicidal thoughts and behavior, and self-destructive behavior.

Several symptoms of Borderline Personality Disorder are illustrated in the movie; first is when Interrupted Girl was having contemplations on self-destruction and planning to commit suicide. Second, Susanna incurring self-damages by wounding or cutting. Third, Susanna’s idea to stay in connections to help prevent feeling relinquished. Fourth, filling the void caused by doing something she knew was wrong. Fifth, encountering the shift in temperaments and later ruled that she had no control over the situation. The film portrays Borderline Personality Disorder mental illness throughout.
