Nothing comes close to the fulfilment one gets from getting up early, watching the sunrise as you saddle your horse and moving together as one with your horse in a majestic manner in the chilled morning hours. Alternatively, the enjoyment that comes from riding a horse across the field at great speed as the wipes away the sorrows and frustrations from your face as you feel the adrenaline rush bringing the realization that you are more alive than you know it. Horse riding is the best pass time activity considering the connection I have made with my horse Sally. Sally is a dark, tall and noticeably strong horse.

Despite the enjoyment I get from horse riding, there are other responsibilities attached, which ultimately builds a strong connection with the horse. A good example is providing care just like that accorded to infants. I was born in Austin in Texas where horse riding is a common practice and at the age of ten, I was a good rider with the support of my father a famous rancher in the region.

From lessons and practices, I learned from him helped me care for Sally and become a great rider. Horse riding has always acted as therapy for me considering the joy it brings after a frustrating day. Normally, I forget all the challenges; feel relaxed and let my mind free once I mount my horse. Therefore, I would recommend it to anyone as a stress release, strength and strategy builder for the next day. I regard horse riding as an exercise since it helps strengthen the legs and arms; moreover, it offers enjoyment in the middle of an exercise.

For me, riding makes me forget who I am since I enter into whatever character I want. For example, there are times when I become a great cowboy hustling for cattle to rustle or even an equestrian rider in the Olympics competing for the gold medal. At the end of the day, it does not matter what you dream to be when riding as long as you enjoy. Horse training is an important step in horse riding since riding an untrained horse is dangerous. The best time to train a horse should be after the foal is born as it creates a strong bond. Grooming the horse and investing time when caring for the horse is crucial. However, horse riding also has its disadvantages, which are mostly experienced during training. During this time, the horse will prove difficult to handle including rejection of riding.

Most people give up at this stage, but this should not mean that horse riding is difficult and it should act as a challenge to be overcome. I remember an occasion when ranchers in Austin organized a teenage horse-riding tournament. I was too afraid considering that I had only trained Sally for three weeks. Despite the encouraging words my father provided, I still had shudders regarding the event. However, when the tournament started, Sally gave me the surprise of a lifetime. Sally was quick and very responsive, unlike any other day.

Everyone was astonished as Sally put up a strong fight in the last lap of the race. Sally overcame her opponent’s one after the other as she reached for the finish line. I was confused considering the great performance she put on the track. We emerged victorious despite the doubts I had. I could not explain this change of attitude but I guess Sally was a born winner and could not fathom losing. From this experience, I fell in love with horse riding and I have never missed riding even for a day.

In conclusion, horse riding is a great sport and hobby that should be embraced as it offers more than one benefit in a single package. Just as I overcame the challenges associated with training and the buck offs that horses offer, so should no one else since giving up is an option.
