According to Egan, American food culture can be best defined as the set of customs, values, and behaviors that are related to the eating of the Americans. The examples she has provided to illustrate the food culture of the Americans make sense and can be seen among the average citizens. Firstly, the American food culture, according to Egan, involves fast foods, which are sold in numerous outlets and restaurants across the country. The United States of America exports large quantities of fast food in other countries. The other example of the American food culture that she has given is the eating of popcorn while people watch movies. It is a widely known behavior and can be seen in most American households. Therefore, Egan's characterization and use of examples depict the accurate American food culture.

The Americans' tastes in food and how it is prepared is continually changing. The flavors that are associated with modernity may not have been in the past but continue to obsess more Americans as they choose from their various diets, including vegetarian, pescatarian, and carnivorous. One of the various developments that have characterized the change in the American food culture is the strawberry chocolate. When I was a child, I was obsessed with chocolate, which made me try as many flavors as I could. Nonetheless, I had not tried strawberry chocolate until I was in my early twenties. As of now, I cannot imagine enjoying the other flavors of chocolate other than strawberry. The changes in American preferences in food and tastes can be attributed to people's diversity in trying new things. Americans are known to value new experiences, and such a culture has spread to food. The rising competition among food outlets in the country has also led to the creation of new tastes in the bid to attract new customers.
