Though conceived out of noble intentions, the creature Victor Frankenstein creates ends up being disastrous. Victor is frustrated by the loss of his mother, which makes him dive in experiments to eradicate death. “I thought that if I could bestow animation upon lifeless matter, I might in process of time…renew life where death had apparently devoted the body to corruption” (Shelley, 2005 pg. 42) narrates Frankenstein. Victor told his story to Captain Wilson as a warning against ambition and how getting obsessed with it can destroy one’s life. Captain Wilson was also at the time driven by the aspiration of finding knowledge. Victor was mad at death for taking away his mother and therefore, developed an objective to destroy it. His enthusiasm, which was driven by anger and grief, made him bring even more deaths upon the people he loved and cared for. He created a powerful creature that he could not control. Nonetheless, the creature escaped from the laboratory and became a threat not only to Frankenstein but also to other people.
The creature Frankenstein made was huge and ugly. As a result, it faced rejection from the rest of the world. Due to this reason, it was frustrated and began to hurt human beings for facing rejection. The frustration led the creature to kill Frankenstein's brother and framed his nanny for the murder. Ideally, the creature could not find love because its look was different from a normal human being. It, therefore, forced Frankenstein to create a female creature of its kind so that they would be in love and hence find happiness. The creature threatened Frankenstein if he failed to do so. However, Frankenstein could not predict how the female creature would be like but figured out that it would be as evil as the male one. In addition, he was afraid that they would both lead to a rise of a kind that would endanger the human race. The fact that Frankenstein failed to create the female counterpart angered the other creature, making it kill his girlfriend Elizabeth and his friend Clerval .

The darkness in Frankenstein's life led to his destruction. In essence, he let his ambitions overcome him (Kohil, 2018). His mother’s death destroyed him that it brought more darkness into his world. Due to the darkness, Frankenstein was forced to create a creature that led not only to his death but also that of other people. Moreover, Frankenstein was responsible for the creature’s misery. Even though he intended to create a human that could not be eradicated by death, he failed miserably. Instead, he created a creature with hideous looks, which made its life miserable. The creature was at first willing to befriend people and fit in. Indeed, it looked for love and acceptance but did not get it simply because of how Victor had created him. It is due to the rejection that it became angry and began to hurt people. Victor, therefore, failed to create a female counterpart for the male creature to find love and be happy. Consequently, the male creature was agitated even more that it killed Elizabeth and Victor. Moreover, the sad events brought by Victor’s creation led to the death of his aging father.
A monster is something or someone that threatens the existence of others. A monster only cares about itself and hurts even innocent people. Victor’s creature can, therefore, be termed as a monster since it got frustrated about its situation of not finding love and acceptance that it began to hurt people. In addition, it threatened not only its creator but also people who had nothing to do with its situation. The creature was driven by its interests, and that made it a monster because it could not stop at anything. Besides its strong ambition, the creature had unstoppable physical power, which made it a monster. From the story, ambition is portrayed as a force that can make one a monster.
