Social media has a vital role on teen’ and young adult’s The role of social media on teens’ and young adults’ education is another positive impact of social media. The role of social networking technologies in facilitating improved sharing of thoughts and ideas across the globe optimizes the outcome of the current education system (Akram et al., 2017). Students across all age groups from various age groups have the potential of communicating or sharing information quickly with their colleagues through social networking sites and thus promoting learning from multiple sources. People are easily updated about occurrences in other areas of the world and thus ensuring they are always updated as things happen- that waythrough the consistent updates, social media ensure that people can always refresh their own particular information base.

Parents in recent years have also taken uembracedp social media, which has come in handybeen instrumental, particularly in matters related to parenting. The availability of multiple information and materials on parenting has helped improve people’s parenting skills (Ante-Contreras, 2016). For instance, new mothers benefit significantly from social media as they use the platform as a means oftool for acquiring accessing continued ongoing support assistance and information required needed to guide them through the first few months following childbirth initial stages of nursing (Ante-Contreras, 2016). Some parents have effectively used social media to create extra leisure timefor recreational purposes and social support for their children, and thus promoting positive quality of life for children.- parents use social media to entertain and instill knowledge in children.

Despite the multiple benefits of social media, lack of self-regulation during usage might result in addiction, and sleep deprivation. When used excessively, social media results in addiction, which affects people’s social life. The effect of addiction is evident among teens and parents (Undiyaundeye, 2014). The increased screen-time due to addiction affects teen’s ability to interact with the outside world. On the other hand, among parents, addiction to social media creates less face-to-face interaction with their children. As a result, there is less happiness and less empowermentparents are less happy and less empowered by the individual, which affects the parent-child relationship and the quality of life with their childrenthe young ones (Ante-Contreras, 2016). Studies have shown that the use of social media network sites and the internet is negatively related to has a negative correlation with the quality of life. Thus, despite the extra leisure time and social support, lack of self-regulation might result in addiction and sleep deprivation,Therefore, if social media is not used effectively, it can be which are unhealthy for both mental and physical growth.

Social media is also linked to various vicesbad behaviors, such as cyberbullying and sexual experimentation. The unregulated access to knowledge on social media platforms put children at the risk of exploring new and unsafe sexual practices (Undiyaundeye, 2014). Today, social media has erotic videos and pictures that can be accessed readily by children, and thus instilling bad behavioral practices on them- this affects children’s development negativelythe negative effect on their development. Cyberbullying is another issue that has become rampant in recent times. Cyberbullying Online bullying has similar grave outcomes is just as problematic as face-to-face bullying (Christofferson, 2016). Therefore, just like physical and verbal abuse that occurs offline, cyberbullying has negative effects on people’s emotional and psychological development, especially among teens. In addition to being a source of destructive knowledge, social media stages ground for conflict and cyberbullying that has ultimately resulted in profound psychological outcomes such as depression.

Social networking sites depression has become prevalent in recent times. Social networking sites depression is defined as understood to be depression that develops is manifested especially among teens who spend a lot of time online and then begin to display the primary manifest classic symptoms of depression (Christofferson, 2016). Cyberbullying is the most common cause of depression among these teens. This type of depression may promote social isolation, which might encourage children to explore social media for content on substance drug abuse, unsafe sexual practices, and self-destructive behaviors (Christofferson, 2016). Teen and young adults may develop unhealthy and self-destructive behavior due to depression.

Privacy is another huge issue that affects many social media users. The millions of megabytes of data available online put users in vulnerable positions, especially when such information falls into the wrong hands. While the major social media providers have strived to protect people against cybersecurity issues, there are still multiple cases of cybersecurity issues, particularly loss of financial information, identity theft, and leaking of confidential information (Undiyaundeye, 2014). With teens and young adults spending most of their time onlineTeens and adults, who are the group of people who hugely use social media, they are at great risk of having their privacy infringed.

In conclusion, the coming of social media technology has hugely affected the life of teens, young adults, and parents, and how they interact in a family. While there are multiple positive effects, social media has also been linked to various negative consequences. Most of the social media benefits , such as enhanced communication, social connection, and source of knowledge in education and parenting, are offset by the risks, including reduced face-to-face interactions, addictions, and negative health consequences such as sleep deprivation and depression of using the social networking platforms. Therefore, despite the extensive benefits of social media, its use has many less positive negative consequences in the form of health problems and cybersecurity issues, which might have a huge effect on a person’s emotional and psychological development. Nevertheless, whether the effects of social media are positive or negative is heavily affected by how an individual person regulates his or her use of social media platforms.
