Stereotyping makes reference to the generalization as well as the judgment of a group of individuals without knowing them. Stereotypes range from sexual remarks, racial remarks, and gender remarks. Stereotyping remains one of the factors that significantly hold back the human race.
First, in the era of immigration and globalization, there is increasing diversity, especially cultural diversity. Usually, the increase in cultural diversity is credited with numerous benefits to society. Societies that are culturally diverse tend to have increased creativity that is pivotal in problem-solving, innovation, and group performance. Creating stereotypes becomes a hindrance to cultural diversity and therefore holding back the human race.

Stereotypes breed intolerance which by far results to negative impacts on the human race. In many cases, stereotypes are negative beliefs and as such paint some races in a bad light. History has not been kind enough when stereotypes have come into play leading to intolerance. An example of the detrimental effects of intolerance derived from stereotypes is the infamous Nazi holocaust that greatly diminished the Nazi population. Such intolerance holds back the human race and has significant negative lasting impacts.
However, despite the negativities associated with stereotypes there exist positive aspects of stereotypes. The positive stereotype for example of Asians having incredible math ability can be used to boost the morale of an Asian learner who is struggling with the subject at school. Additionally, holding the stereotype that African Americans make great athletes may act as a boost for budding athletes and as such encourage them to bring out the best in themselves.
In conclusion, stereotypes are not only hurtful but also wrong. Most notably, stereotypes start at an early age and are propagated by society and as such should be avoided. Even though some stereotypes may be true, they can lead to constant pinning down of individuals which have a negative impact of holding back the human race.
