Primary and Secondary audiences are the most critical target for a research report because addressing each group is key to attaining the researcher’s objectives. The primary audience encompasses of individuals who are typically available in the room when conducting a presentation; these are the people who immediately fulfil one’s presentation objectives since the whole presentation is addressed to them ( Maggiani, 2012) . Precisely, the primary audience directly receives the entire communication (Hickman, n.d.). On the other hand, the secondary audience are individuals who are not present during the presentation, but they are directed linked to the primary audience, or have interest in the presented information; these are the people who might receive a copy of the presentation, hear about it, or get affected by the message being presented ( Maggiani, 2012) . Thus, for a research report, the primary audience might be the decision-making body interested in the outcome and recommendations from the study, and the secondary audience might be a group of individuals linked to the primary audience (Hickman, n.d.).
The primary audience for my research report is the school’s board of directors since my research focuses on the factors influencing academic performance of students; the board of directors are the major decision-making body. The secondary audience include faculty heads, teachers, parents, and nonteaching staff who understand the importance of addressing the research problem (causes of poor performance).

The secondary audience affects how I write my report because they are equally interested in the outcomes and recommendations from my research. Furthermore, prior to implementation of the research’s findings, the primary audience must consult with the secondary audience who might influence the decisions that might be made by the primary audience. Therefore, it is appropriate to consider the secondary audience while writing a research report.
