The first important trait that I would want in my future place of work as a paralegal is a good work-life balance. I would not want to focus so much on work that three decades later I come to realize that I forgot to live. According to Legaco LLC. (2019), some of the large law firms in America offer paid sabbaticals for their paralegals. Whereas a paid sabbatical may not guarantee a good work-life balance, it reflects a culture that appreciates the existence of a life outside the workplace.
The second important trait relates to the feeling that I am making a positive difference in the world based on my professional affiliation. A good example would be in the healthcare industry based inter alia on the fact that in the USA, universal primary healthcare is not guaranteed, and one of the major causes of bankruptcy is illness. According to Paralegaledu.org. (2019), paralegals are being hired to make a difference in the healthcare industry, for example, by investigating and minimizing fraud. Based on the above, my work can generate meaning from knowing that I am contributing to social and actual justice.

The third vital trait is the ability to grow in my professional affiliation as I would not want to be stuck in the same position doing the same thing for decades. I would want an employer who focuses on training and development as well as providing opportunities for growth. According to Kane (2019), paralegals are no longer merely pushing files and filing briefs in major law firms as they can rise to the pinnacles of the organizations. With proper study, training, and development, a paralegal can rise to be a chief financial officer, law firm administrator, or even have jobs parallel to those of attorneys. This creates massive opportunities for growth.
