Writing Claims of Fact

The following is a claim of fact in response to the different issues that have been highlighted:

The United States’ military spending is the highest in the world.

Military spending in the United States has increased significantly in the last decade towards becoming the country with the highest military spending in the world. According to federal data on military spending, the United States spends approximately 3.5% of its GDP on defense. In 2018, President Donald Trump requested for a military budget of $639 billion in comparison to $312 billion spent in other NATO countries. In 2015, the military spending in the world was $1.6 trillion with the United States’ spending accounting for 37% of the total. What is clear from this perspective is that indeed the country’s military spending is much higher when compared to the spending within NATO countries combined. In that view, it can be argued that indeed the statement with regard to the United States’ military spending being the highest in the world is a fact.

You and several classmates are confused about an essay assignment.

Based on my interaction with several classmates, it is clear that they lack the expected understanding on an essay assignment. The challenge has been in trying to define what constitutes an essay, as this is one of the key aspects to consider when determining how to approach an assignment. Based on the discussions that my classmates and I have been having, it is clear that we are nowhere close to understanding what can be considered as an essay assignment. The discussions have helped us understand the different parts of an essay with regard to its reflection of what is expected in ensuring that it presents the expected message or objective to its readers. However, I would support the position that indeed me and several of my classmates remain confused about an essay assignment from the general perspective of what an essay seeks to represent. In that view, I would argue from the perspective that indeed the statement is accurate and a reflection of a fact.

Production of renewable energy is now mandatory in many states.

Renewable energy is considered as one of the key approaches through which to ensure effective production of clean energy that would help in the conservation of the environment. However, states have not put in place legislations that would make it mandatory for the production of renewable energy. Instead, the governments are involved in projections that seek to encourage production rather than having to make it mandatory. The expectation is that this will seek to create a platform through which investors, in the energy sector, would shift their focus towards renewable energy as one of the ways through which to guarantee clean energy. The states expect that this will help towards reducing carbon emissions, which have had serious implications on the environment leading up to climate change and environmental issues. From this perspective, it is clear that the statement cannot be supported by evidence; thus, meaning that it cannot be quantified as a fact.

Multinational corporations should be held responsible for poor working conditions in the farms and factories these corporations own.

Employment and labor laws have been on the forefront in highlighting the working conditions that all companies and organizations ought to create for their employees. The laws also apply when dealing with multinational corporations considering that they are expected to always work towards ensuring that their employees work in conditions that meet the set regulations. The laws seek to ensure that workers are accorded conditions that would allow them to work effectively while seeking to minimize the risk of exposure to hazards that are likely to occur in poor working conditions. That means that the existence of poor working conditions would mean that the multinational corporations have not adhered to the laws and policies governing the workplace environment. It is from this perspective that the multinational corporations ought to be held both responsible and accountable for the poor working conditions. From this perspective, it can be noted that the statement is supported by evident, which means that it can be considered as a fact.

Sentencing juveniles as adults enrages many people across your state.

During sentencing, judges and magistrates are given sentencing guidelines that would differentiate between juveniles and adults as a way of ensuring that juveniles are protected from their inclusion in sentencing as adults. It is always expected that the judges and magistrates would adhere to these guidelines during the course of sentencing as one of the ways through which to ensure that they protect juveniles. In my state, whenever a juvenile is sentenced as an adult, the outcome is protests by the local community, who argue that the judge or magistrate involved in the sentencing failed to adhere to the set sentencing guidelines. The protests often reflect on the rage that the community has with regard to lack of adhere to the law during the course of sentencing as one of the ways through which to protect juveniles. Based on this understanding, it can be argued that indeed the statement can be quantified as a fact, as it supported through facts.

Claims of Fact

Based on the questions, the following is a claim of fact that can be supported through powerful reasons, personal examples, and credible research:

The continued exposure of teenagers to social media is having a negative mental effect on them leading them towards engaging in dangerous activities.

The demand for social media among teenagers has increased significant within the last few years, which has been attributed to the need for teenagers to use this as platforms where they would be able to gain acclamation from their peers. However, this is creating the need for some of these teenagers to engage in dangerous activities, some of which lead to death, as a way of gaining a bigger following from their peers. An example is the fact that some of these teenagers are exposing themselves to guns during live shows that are transmitted through different social media platforms. In some of these cases, the teenagers have ended up shooting themselves considering that they do not understand how to handle such weapons. From this position, it is clear that indeed exposure to social media is having a serious implication on the teenagers leading to their exposure to negative mental effects, which lead to dangerous activities that are likely to cause harm. That serves as an indication that indeed this is a claim of fact that can be supported through factual evidence.
