Schools have been required to improve the learning environment for students with disabilities. One way of improving the learning environment is by using assistive technology to help students with learning difficulties. Computers have been used in classrooms for students with challenges. For example, students suffering from dyslexia today can use assistive technology and tools such as line readers, pocket spell checkers, colored keyboards to help with learning and writing. In addition, the use of computers for students with visual problems has led to improvement in the learning process.

Erdem in 2017 carried out research that aimed at understanding the relationship between technology and knowledge for students with disabilities. The study focused on different intellectual aspects such as communication, reading skills, writing skills, visual improvement and mathematics in the learning process. From the research, Erdem concluded that technology has a positive impact on the learning process for students with learning challenges. From different research, Kelly and Smith (2011) researched the impact of learning technology on students with visual impairment. The researcher found out that there was a positive relationship between the increased use of technology for students with visual impartment.

Gordon and McGregor (2017), carried research on that was focused on improving the effects of technology on students with disabilities both children and adults. The research is based on an analysis of five different articles that were based on research effects of technology on students with disabilities. It was a systematic and meta-analysis on the impact of technology on the learning on persons with disability. From the research there, the authors found that use of technology, helps improve the learning process of students with disabilities but the rate of impact varies from different students.

Literature indicates that there is a large impact on the quality of education offered through employing technology. Studies done on different subjects to measure the effectiveness of applying technology to the education of the student show that there is a great improvement. Some of the technology that has been used in schools include computers. Research indicates that computers have had a great influence on student’s performances on various subjects such as mathematics. Educational technology has also been used in students with learning problems. For example, Nordstrom and others in 2018, found out that assistive technology has been used by learners with reading problems to read and write. For children with dyslexia, the use of reading and writing technology has played a major role in improving the dyslexia condition. From the literature above, it is easy to conclude that the use of technology in education helps improve the learning process for all students. From the different forms of literature, available scholars agree on the results but disagree on the rate at which technology affects the learning process.
