Overall purpose and the Readers profile

The primary procedure is how to do the rapid test for malaria. The primary readers of the instructions are new laboratory technicians. However, the instructions can also be used by Nurses, the existing laboratory technicians, and even the clinician. In this case, my readers have less information on how to a rapid test for malaria, and I need them, through instruction, to learn how it is done and why it is necessary. Maybe some of them, because they have attended medical colleges, have heard of and perhaps having seen the rapid kits for malaria. Some may have also been able to get a chance with the tube and have done the rapid test for malaria, however, some may not have gotten the chance, and it means that technical terms or instruction, as well as the equipment, may give them some problems. The main in this case which I will prefer so that we read the same pages regarding communication with my reader is the new terms. The terms much like the rapid kits, its technical instruments and many others will have to be explained to the readers and also have them prepared to have any issues handled in case it occurs. What is important in this case is that my readers need clarity for them to have a feeling of adequate preparedness and confidence as they handle this kind of procedure. The primary consideration which has to be significant on is the instrument which will be used for the rapid test. Some readers may be afraid of handling these instruments, and they may feel nervous upon seeing them. In this case, I will have to use easily understandable vocabularies to ensure that they get to know more of this instrument and they feel free to have them or put them to use.

Rapid test for Malaria

Rapid Diagnostic Test or what is called the RTDs is a quick way to test whether or not a patient has shown some Malaria symptoms actually has malaria. It is worthy to note that malaria is caused by malaria parasite that infects the blood cells. This is the parasite that causes fever and other malaria symptoms. The parasite produces chemicals or proteins called the antigen. This chemical is what is tested by the RDTs in the victims’ blood. Doing RDT is not a cumbersome procedure; in fact it can state that it is one of simplest method of doing malaria test. What the readers have to master and also have vast knowledge on is the some equipment which is necessary for this particular test. After having this knowledge, the reader is good to go.

SECTION ONE: How to use an RDT to do malaria test

The following are some specific steps which must be followed for successful malaria test using RDT;

Assemble all necessary equipment’s which are needed for this process. These are inclusive of the hand gloves, Alcohol swab, sterile lancet, buffer and the watch or clock for timing the entire process.

Have all these samples placed on a table where the participant (clinician and patients) will have access to them.

The next step is to have all the expiry date for each and every item checked to ensure that none of the items has expired that may temper with the finale results.

Put on the examination gloves and ensure that it is very clean and new. The rationale for putting on this gloves is to have the medical professional protected from possible infection mostly HIV/AIDS.

Remove the content of each and every packet and explained the items role to the patients. For instance, it is very paramount to explain to the patients the function of the lancet. Explain to them the holes and the making, what each means, the squares marked A and B and their possible functions and how they will be used in the entire process. Explain to them the rectangular window and show them how reading of the results will be done using the window and how the letter T on the lancet will be used to determine the diagnosis and many other necessity that you think the client need to know about this apparatus.

The next step after the client has the overview of what will take place throughout the process is to have the client’s name written on the cassette. It is very important to tell the patient why his or her name is written. This is done to bring less confusion when being used.

The Next step is to have the fourth finger of the patient cleaned with an alcohol swab. Have the process explained to the patient that it is done to prevent infection. The cleaned finger must be given enough time to dry without wiping or blowing.

Open the lancet and prick the finger, you should ensure that the prick is done in manner which produces enough blood for the process. After pricking, discard the lancet in a safe container.

Using blood collection apparatus such as the pipettes collect enough blood. Collect just to the mark just a good sample.

Add the drop to the lower well or hole labeled A. Note; the blood should not deposit the plastic side of the well. Discard the blood collection instruments in a safe place.

Add correct number of drops of the buffer on the hole the hole labeled B as shown

Wait for the correct time, approximately 15 minutes after adding the buffer before result collection.

Remove and discard the gloves.

SECTION TWO: Reading and interpreting test results

Line at position T and the line at position C give a positive results

Note that if the line appears at the positions that are C and T even if it is very faint, the result is positive. Care should be taken as one is observing the result of note even the faint lines for each and every mark in this case is very important in interpreting the result.

The line at position C and Note line at position T is Negative.

Line at position C and no online at Position T are negative results as shown above.

The possible result is no Line at position C and line at position T which means that test is invalid.

Interpret the results as follows; POSITIVE results means malaria is presents and need to be treated, The NEGATIVE results means that malaria is absent a no need of treatments. INVALID results means that the test was not well done and one has to undergoes the same procedure carefully to have a result.
