Language in news reporting is one of the significant elements of consideration for all journalists. News articles often use influencing language to convey their own opinion to influence readers' thinking. Comparing two articles reveals the language biases found in news articles. In article 1 I titled "court to criminalize Druggies go back home” and the second article titled "after twenty years in Australia, young mother face deportation”, reveals language bias. Both articles convey the same information about immigration and crime in Australia , but the word choices convey different opinions.
The first article uses informal language to describe the reasons why Kate Vine is to be deported. The choice of words reveals language bias in describing the perpetrator. For example, the author uses words like crime-filled life, serial criminals and crime spree to express what is the perceived opinion about Kate's criminal life. The second article uses a professional tone to describe Kate. The author uses standard language such as unusual strict interpretation of the law when describing the reasons for being deported. Besides using professional language, the second article presents a detailed background of Kate's' criminal history instead of concluding as to why she needs to be deported.

Compared to the second article, the first article uses condemning language instead of presenting a balanced view of the situation. The author focuses on quoting negative opinion from the persecuting solicitor stating, "Australia is not a haven for foreigners who are serial criminals". Strong words are some of the examples of language bias while reporting. The first article is not written in a fair and accurate manner. The article emphasizes on the negative aspect of the perpetrator without highlighting some of the underlying issues that might have encouraged criminal behavior. The presentation of these articles reveals how language can influence readers' opinion especially when the information is covered differently.
