Soft Machine - Out Bloody Rageous
In the first five minutes, soft machine introduces the song with a low note to allow a smooth transition into the music ( Cheever, 2015 ). The artists then increase the notes as the song progresses. The keyboard is heard in the introduction. The keys have been looped to create a rhythmic pattern while growing into the music. This loop is due to the repetition of beats in the opening of the song. This track reminds us of Terry Riley as it employs the use of loops which were used by him. The aesthetic nature of this music is achieved by the different layers added into the keyboard. The beauty is comparable to the one produced by the tape collage. This is because due to the addition of these layers into a keyboard. This is the section of introduction where the artists express themselves freely. At the fifth minute, the trumpets are introduced. This groove is a piece of jazz music. Illustrated as it employs the use of group improvisation and syncopated rhythms.
Miles Davis – Bitches Brew
Vibrato is the trumpet effect used at the beginning of the song. The result is characterized by the undulation in pitch customarily used to add vocal expression and instrumental music. The kind of atmosphere created was a feeling of ambient jazz music. This was amplified mostly by the introduction of the trumpets, which helped to boost the environment. The trumpets are a symbol of jazz music, and that was the main reason for their debut ( LatinAutor , 2012) . The drum groove starts smoother than in the soft machine. The drum beats are in a continuous nature and less loudly than in the Soft Machine example.

Multiple drummers are making the drum beats due to the constant nature of the hits. Drumbeats can be heard from various directions, also suggesting that there was more than one drummer in the studio ( LatinAutor , 2012) . Employing finger snaps is one use of the studio as an instrument. This is because the echos from the studio amplify the sound, thus creating a musical environment in the studio. The types of edits used included the changing of the effects of the trumpets on the beat. Furthermore, Milles Davies employed the use of loops to create harmony in the tenth minute and thirty seconds.
Comparisons between the two recordings
Miles Davis’s piece is more jazz-based, and the Soft Machine’s piece is more rock-based. The Soft Machine’s example is sung in much more progression compared to Miles’s, which was done in a syncopation. The main feature in Miles’s example is the trumpet which is a significant characteristic of rock music while the Soft Machine’s example features the trumpets later in the music ( Cheever, 2015 ) . Miles Davis uses the tape edits but does not lay sound like the way Terry Riley inspired the beginning of the soft machine. Terry Riley used a signature loop while Miley Davis did not employ the use of lifts in the edits of the song.
Despite these differences, several similarities were found between the two recordings. The two records involve the use of drummers. Other than the fact that Miles seems to employ multiple drummers, whereas the Soft Machine employs one drummer to create the beats, they both employ the use of these drummers ( Cheever, 2015 ). Another similarity is seen in the introduction of the use of the trumpets into the songs. This addition is to spice it up and to employ many several effects on the trumpet.
