After John the Baptist listened to his disciples, he decides to send them back and ask Jesus Christ if He was the one who is sent or should they expect somebody else (Luke 7:18-20, New International Version). The disciples then went and asked Jesus if he was the one who was to come. As a result, Jesus healed diseases and evil spirits, as well as restored sight to the blind. At that time, He told the disciples to return and report to John what they had witnessed and heard from Him and His actions.
Therefore, the significance of this claim about Jesus nature was to show the disciples and the people that he was the one that God sent to the world so that He would proclaim the word of God. ‘The blind receive sight, the lame walk, those who have leprosy are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the good news is proclaimed to the poor’ (Luke 7:22, New International Versions). Jesus performed these miracles to people so that they could be enlightened and realize that the Messiah had come (Myers, 2016). John’s disciples no longer needed answers because they had already seen it for themselves that He was indeed God’s Chosen one.

Consequently, Jesus performed these miracles so that He would show that He was GOD’S son, and they should not expect any other person but Him. Furthermore, the scripture says, ‘Blessed is anyone who does not stumble on account of me’ (Luke 7:23, New International Version). Jesus spoke these words to the disciples to encourage John the Baptist to believe in Jesus as the Messiah and not to fall in his faith (Myers, 2016). As such, Jesus’s miraculous acts and His preaching are visible evidence about His true nature and His purpose to the world.
