The veteran community grapples with homelessness with a whopping 49933 veterans homeless, representing 12 % of the homeless adult population. A major cause has been the difficulty veterans face in transferring their military skills and various deployments to the civilian work environment. Notably, over 51% of homeless veterans either live with disabilities. I am a community-based organization (CBO) participant that boosts veterans' access to affordable housing. In the CBO, I am part of the leadership that encourages landlords and property owners to house veterans, regardless of their eligibility for HUD-VASH and other VA services or not. In the CBO, we also engage in getting funding such as risk mitigation funding that encourages providers' involvement. With others, I also collect and distribute move in-essentials for veterans exiting homelessness by working with others to provide them with items such as mattresses and household items, among other costly supplies, as they move into their new house or apartment.
I am an active supporter of the NCHV (National Coalition for Homeless Veterans) programs and initiatives through volunteering, events planning, and financial aid. I participate in the NCHV’s stand-down events that include grassroots intervention programs that help homeless veterans. Together with other NCHV participants, I help veterans access community resources, food, clothing, companionship, mental health support, medical aid, job referrals, and job counseling. I also volunteer in the organization of these of this stand down events and gatherings.

Two primary noteworthy achievements in the past year have been helping the veteran’s community member’s transition from service into civilian entrepreneurial actions. I participated in over 70% of the Patriot boot camp events between October 2019 and September 2020, which helped around 150 veterans, get into entrepreneurial ventures. Besides volunteering to engage either the veterans to help them translate their skills and experience into innovative entrepreneurial ventures, I helped coordinate. I made my financial contribution that helped in training and preparing them to succeed. The success of getting 150 veteran members now active in entrepreneurial ventures is a notable feat achieved.
