Would a wellness program benefit Premier Financial Services?

This is the program that Premier Financial services should adopt. Madam Shelly has highlighted that their employees work for long hours to increase their pay. This portrays a scenario where workers have very little time to relax and exercise. Meaning for hours workers are glued to their chairs working trying to make an extra Dollar. Additionally, Shelly has detected a decline in productivity due to reduced company income, employees considering looking for other employment sector and the increased health insurance cost. All this can be attributed to poor health watch from employee’s side. Too much work with no exercise cause back pain, cholesterol build up that leads to cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, and high blood pressure. All these effects lend to psychological stress and health complication thus, low productivity. A wellness program would help to counter all the named impacts thus improving employee’s productivity.

What components of a wellness program would be appropriate for this company?

Considering Shelly’s report; Back pain relieve strategies, stress management, weight control and nutritional programs are all that is needed. The report indicated an increase in health insurance cost, meaning employees health statuses were deteriorating resulting in reduced productivity. Problems with the trunk and weight increase can be solved through regular exercises. Back pains, high, blood pressure, Cardiovascular diseases, and cholesterol increase levels are all attached to absenteeism and health risks. When absenteeism due to sickness occurs, it reduces the company sale thus less income. Therefore, to counter that, the firms should educate employees on the importance of proper nutrition, exercising and weight loss and control programs. The company can sponsor members in paying for weight-loss programs, implementing counseling programs, influencing workers food choice at the workplace and lastly rewarding positive weight loss progress through tokens. Such action will give a sense of belonging to the employees on the firm activities, leading to increased working morale.

If a wellness program is stated, how can shelly encourage employees to participate in the program?

From the start of Shelly’s report, she highlighted that her company employees work for long hours to make an extra dollar. This is what causes burnouts, stress-related and negative perception towards the job. Thus, even if she encourages works to pay for weight loss programs, exercise and attend health seminars, it would all be in vain if the cost of all that will be deducted from their income. Competition for weight-loss and nutrition control programs from the company’s Flexible spending account (FSA) would be the best option. This will show concern and love from the employer thus boosting working morale.
