Procrastination is a personal challenge that I have to deal with. It happens often times when I have a lot to accomplish but end up postponing most of the tasks for later. It is a weakness in which I implement most of my plans on paper but fail to follow the necessary actual steps and tasks involved. Hence, ideas and schedules end up piling up, and finally becoming overwhelming. The trait of postponing work and responsibility drags progress and effectiveness towards achieving personal goals. To overcome this challenge, I have resorted to setting short terms goals that accumulate towards the achievement of long-term goals. I believe that by sorting the short-term goals, eventually I will attain the long-term goals. I have started by creating a timetable which outlines the specific tasks that I need to accomplish and the timeframes for each of the tasks.
Another challenge I have dealt with in the past is recognizing failure as stepping stone to a better future. I let failure dampen my mood and progress instead of realizing the importance of such failure in building and shaping my strengths. I have learnt that it is not always the case that plans get accomplished to perfection. At times, unavoidable circumstances may necessitate change of plans (Hussain & Sultan 2010). At the face of failure, it is important to recognize the lessons learnt and use it for future reference. It is also okay to allow room for error or failure when setting out plans as failure is the nature of success. In order to achieve my goals, I have to pass through hurdles and stumbling blocks. I resorted to recollecting myself each and every time I fail, and move forward without letting the incident reduce my productivity. It takes the same amount of energy in frustration as it would take in dealing with challenges.

When it comes to academics, as an IT student, I realize the importance of practical skills because of the technical nature of the course. I intend to take my laboratory and practical lessons alongside my theory classes with specialized attention. The importance of the practical skills is in the job practice which demand the relevant knowledge in various programming skills. As well, it is vital that I take extra classes and exercises outside of the classroom environment in order to supplement the classwork. This is necessary as the classwork alone may not be sufficient to align my skills with the job prescriptions and working environment. Further into my studies I plan to engage in practical projects that are meant to further enhance my portfolio for better opportunities while practicing.
Another trait I need to practice thoroughly is the art of teamwork and collective effort. This especially important while undertaking practical projects which involve collaboration with various departments. The subdivision of labor in developing software is essential as no one person can accomplish all the demanding needs of the software development lifecycle. The value of teamwork is highly appreciated in the computer science field and related fields and therefore I have to adopt it into part of my skills set.
The two years in the IT program has been challenging with pressures from family. I have mastered the art controlling my happiness without the need for external assurances. Through the Business and Policies and Strategies class I have learnt to adopt into the job market by choosing procurements as my specialization (Muller, 2015). I have also mastered the technology and the technical terms applied in this field which I believe will come handy in my daily practice. I can confirm that the two years in this program has built me professional and made me ready for practice.
