Nursing practice is highly dependent on detailed research and studies. Nursing research influences the future and the current professional practices. It also provides an ideal learning process in the nursing profession. Typically, survey benefits in determining distinctive approaches that can be used in determining the medical intervention. It is through research that nurses and other medical practitioners make an informed decision such as ways to prevent, cure, and diagnose health problems. The proposed study will focus more on the topic. The proposed research will focus on the use of available literature that underpins the arguments presented in the study. The following are two ideal sources that build up the background context of the survey.

Tingen, M. S., Burnett, A. H., Murchison, R. B., & Zhu, H. (2009). The Importance of Nursing Research.  Journal of Nursing Education 48 (3), 167-170. doi:10.3928/01484834-20090301-10

The selected peer-reviewed source is written by Haidong Zhu, Rachael Murchison, Professor Anna Burnett, and Martha Tingen in the genre of survey journal. These authors focus on asserting the value of research in medical practices. Therefore, the main claim made is that research has value on nursing practices. The journal entry has been supported by a detailed study of two undergraduate nursing students; whose experience in nursing helps in developing a deeper understanding of what purpose and application of nursing research. The journal article narrows their intended audience to nursing students; to whom by sharing the experience, it will help them get a better understanding of the purpose and gains of evidence-based learning. The apparent goal of the authors is to determine the benefit of nursing research to encourage more nursing students to participate in federally funded surveys.

The selected piece of literature contains strengths and limitations that will eventually affect their application on the research about the mandate of evidence-based practices in nursing. The advantage of this piece hinges on the formal writing tone applied throughout the study. The survey presents facts, higher reading skills, and uses medical jargon such as “DNA” to show a formal tone. The identifiable weakness of this source is that the piece does not follow the general layout of a professional research study. The content lacks research components such as literature review, recommendation, and relevant methodology section. However, this source is appropriate since it depicts the application of research, hence providing literature content for the survey.

The second source is a web-based resource that is written by Nancy Theresa Blake. The genre is online-based academic resources. The claim made by Blake is that nursing benefit significantly from nursing. Blake claim that in order to have improved quality, nurses must embrace research. The statement indicate that indeed research is an essential component of nursing as it facilitates improved patient care, hence the thesis statement that analysis is critical for improved quality of services by patients. Nancy supports her thesis by citing relevant examples that depict the real-life application of evidenced-based practices, especially for nurses and other caregivers. A standard of the mentioned proof is that of a nurse observing a sick child and noting the changes in the application of any intervention. The article targets specifically nurses, by aiming to encourage their use of research technique as it is a tool for improved and quality healthcare.

The identified source contains features that could affect the literature content either negatively or positively. The strong element of this article lies on the credibility of the information provided and cited by Nancy Blake. However, there is a weakness that could be critical in the proposed survey; Nancy fails to use a formal tone but rather employees the optimistic tone. The entire argument remains one-sided on the positive roles of nurses in evidence-based learning. However, the source is still applicable in the proposed survey as it will provide tangible examples of how nurses facilitate research through observing patients and how it translates into improved quality care.
