With an aim of coming up with a comprehensive analysis of OCD, the author carried out a cross-border comprehensive survey. Together with several technical tools used to analyze the data collected, results and connected conclusions were made on International prescribing practices in OCD.
Out of the 15 invited participants, 10 agreed to be respondents. Variations in terms of gender participation were noted, an example being Indian participants having more male respondents while Australia’s lot had more women. Another example is age disparities where Japan’s participants were generally 10 years younger than Australia’s participants. The severity of the disorder was highly varied as indicated by the Y-BOCS which was used in data analysis. Varied statistics were indicative of the fact that the majority of Japan and Spain's participants were referred by a doctor on the medications required while those from India majorly referred themselves. The mean percentages of the sample size which manifested the trends above are 82.5%, 81.7% and 57.9% for Japan, Spain, and India respectively. Regardless of the disparities above, similarities exist in the prevalence of medical use by the participants from all the countries. Even though, there was an acute difference between the use of pharmacotherapy and psychotropic medication. While the use of pharmacotherapy is high in most countries, that of psychotropic medication differ in different countries, ranging from 56% in Brazil on the lower side to 100% in Italy on the upper side.

The result of the above study Indicates that there exists a large difference in OCD medication use among the respondents from the various countries. The use of pharmacotherapy was prominent among individuals who were referred by medical personnel. SSRI medication use was also common. The medication prescribed was depended on factors such as age, time, the onset and how severe OCD was, as well as other underlying factors such as comorbid anxiety. Other conclusions made include the central role government policies play in the determination of the type of treatment individuals with such a disorder receive. In addition, personnel, as well as OCD researchers, are supposed to be in the forefront in advocating for the subsidization of OCD medication. Besides, future expansive research should include a lot more concerning OCD medication.
