My passion to work with children influenced my choice for Human Services as the major course. I have always had the desire to work with children. This is the area I feel I have a calling. Initially, I thought I could do this by training as a teacher because of the nature of the setting where one is able to work with children all the time, but I realized I needed a profession which will involve more connection, protection, and care for the children. This influenced my decision for Human Services major to help me get a job in an hospital setting to fulfil my desire.
Population:
I purpose to work with children who are aged 5-10 years old. My internship at SAFFT (Supporting Adoption and Foster Families Together) has made me to increase my love for the children. I realised children need care and protection from family violence and abuse. Moreover, I realised blend so well with children of this age.

Setting:
I have always desired to work in a hospital setting, where I can get a chance to do some social work for the children. It will offer me an opportunity to get in touch with children who require some attention, love and care. Currently, I work at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta (CHOA) and this has provided me with a chance to work in a hospital setting and I love it. Additionally, am going for a masters in Health Informatics, which will help me acquire data analysis knowledge that I can use to help people. The choice will be appropriate for me when looking for a job in a hospital setting.
Possibilities
Health informatics and Human Services present many job opportunities. Most hospitals advertise for job vacancies in this area of specialization, in the country and around the world. This offers me reassurance of getting a chance to work with children in a hospital setting. I already have the knowledge and skills required for the job in hospital and related settings. Further, I intend to look for a new challenge after my graduation and will use my internship and current posting as my references.
Response
I think becoming a counsellor is such a great idea! Knowing you can be someone's support system and help the community in preventing and finding remedies of problems. By majoring in Human Service, one can acquire the skills needed for improving the overall quality of life of service population.
