The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals which commonly referred to as the ASPCA is one of the non-profit firm that have developed efforts to fight against, end or prevent the cruelty that is directed to animals. The organization was established in the year 1866, and since its inception, it has been working towards ensuring that animals do not go through cruel treatments around the United States of America. The business is based in the New York City although it works to ensure that animals are protected throughout all the states in the United States of America ("ASPCA", 2018). The organization was created by Henry Bergh after the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals was given Royal status in the year 1840. Henry Bergh created the firm with the belief that animals get respect and proper treatment under the care of human beings, he believed that this entitlement needed to be protected under the law. The firm is referred to as the oldest animal welfare organization in the world. The charter to incorporate the company was given to Bergh after he pleaded for the rights of the animals in a meeting at the Clinton Hall in the New York City. He discussed the horrors of slaughterhouses and against the cockfighting activities and gave a “Declaration of the Rights of Animals.”

Soon after the company became operational, the first Act against animal cruelty was passed in the on 19 th April 1866. The firm was also given the right to ensure that the laws against the cruelty of animals are enforced and ensure that new rules protecting creatures are created. The organisation started its operations by implementing an ambulance service to help injured horses, it also gave alternatives and advocated against the brutal treatment of the animals (Thomas, 2015). The animals that they protected included horses, pigeons that were alive, dogs and the cats. By 1888, when Bergh died, 37 out of the 38 states in the United States of America had implemented the laws against the cruelty of animals. These laws were being enforced by the organization.

The organization has since intensified its fight against the cruelty of domesticated animals, small animals such as cats and dogs have been the primary focus of the firm since they interact with human beings more as compared to other large animals that are domesticated. The business had been operating the municipal animal shelter in New York City since 1894 to 1977 before an agreement was developed between the organization and the New York City Department of Health. This meant that the company received funding from the government and discouraged private donations. Its yearly budget appropriations were affected by this move, they terminated the contract in 1993 and encouraged individual allocations.

The organization has been putting up several programs and efforts to ensure that they protect the rights of animals and fight against the cruelty of animals. The primary objective of establishing this firm was to ensure that they improve the welfare and the health of animals that were domesticated. The organization developed the first animal hospital in the year 1912, through this, an initiative to establish more hospitals was started. The business also developed innovations and discoveries with the help of technology to ensure that they offer proper medical procedures for providing quality medical care to the animals. Some of the changes that the organization developed to provide care to animals include; the use of anaesthesia on horses was established by the ASPCA veterinaries in 1918 (Meyer et al., 2013). The hospitals established by the organization added pathology and radiography services in 1954, the ASPCA veterinaries also managed to conduct an open heart surgery to a dog in 1961. The organization has also developed resources for parents and pets which include the pet loss support service, animal poison control line, free expert training and advice on behavior. The organization has also developed a program known as the outcomes for at-risk animals. This program entails steps that should be used to take care of animals that are at risk.

To enhance their services and programs, the organization needs to implement a new program of educating the people about the benefits of taking care of the animals and ensuring that they are healthy. In promoting the program, the firm needs to develop resources such as learning materials and even promote the development of a curriculum program to help learners know the benefits of keeping animals healthy and also treating the animals well. Since the business has developed different hospitals for animals, they need to target the clients who visit the hospitals. They will offer resources to their clients so that they can understand the benefits of treating the animals in the right way (Weiss, Mohan-Gibbons & Zawistowski, 2015). Their resources should capture both the health benefits and other benefits that will ensure that the clients see the essence of treating the animals better. Through this program, the firm also needs to ensure that they educate their clients on the regulations that are being set and also ask for their support in creating a good environment for their animals.

The organization needs to ensure that their staff understand the resources that have been developed, this will allow the team to explain clearly to the clients the contents that are contained in the resource program that is being designed. The company also needs to ensure that the unit are equipped with the required documents and resources to provide the clients with proper information. The organization needs to meet the physical needs of the program; they need to ensure that the new plan requires. This will ensure that the program offers the new program efficiently and effectively.

In ensuring that the new program is efficiently implemented by the firm, the steps need to be carried out in a process that is outlined. Since the new program involves the development of new resources that will ensure that people understand the essence of keeping animals healthy, there is need to follow steps that will ensure that this is achieved. The steps that should be followed include; looking for funds that will enable the program to be rolled out expertly. By having enough funds, the project will not stall at any point. All the required materials will be availed so that people will effectively have been taught about the essence of keeping their animals healthy. The development of the resources that will be used during the program is the next step. In this step, the business will create the resources that will be used in the sensitization process. The research will also be conducted in this step so that the developers of the resources will develop the most efficient methods of sensitizing the public. Development of sensitization method is the next step. In this step, methods that will be used during the sensitization program are developed. These are those methods that the organization will use to ensure that the people get the information that they are passing around. Research has to be done to ensure that the right method is selected. By following this steps as outlined, the firm will implement the new program to enhance the programs that it is promoting in the society.
