Teaching piano has been both interesting and educational. During the last year’s lesson, I grew in different areas of teaching. I developed in rhythm activities, through using the classroom percussion instruments that assisted with steady beat and rhythm. The use of clap-backs and play-backs also assisted in developing rhythm. I would clap a rhythm pattern, while students echo it. On play-black, a selected individual would play a short pattern on a single piano key while the others would echo it. The other improvements during the piano lessons was on the music alphabet, white, higher, and lower keys. Playing keys D, F, and B is interesting, and it helps in mastering distinctive keys on the piano and increasing understanding among my students. My fine motor skills have developed during the last year, and now I can play the piano with much ease, keeping up with the rhymes of a song. I also gained the ability to teach music theory instead of piano.
Teacher Jacqueline influenced me most and my teaching in the semester. She used lots of games during piano lessons. I will use the same concept when teaching my students. The games will keep students entertained and focused on the lessons. There are different games that I will use when teaching. The rhythm bowling game which will be useful in rhythmic compositions and promoting quick sight-reading, and keeping all students engaged since it is highly competitive. Piano pattern frenzy game will focus on ear training, helping my students develop strong pitch recognition. When teaching piano beginners, I will use the notes going up, notes going down the game, teaching the movement of notes within a given measure. The game will also involve two students playing at a time, thus keeping them focused on the lessons.

In my opinion, good piano teaching is made up of the creation of an effective lesson plan that includes the needs of each student, creativity, and inclusion of games to make it interesting. Piano teaching can be challenging, especially for beginners with slow motor skills and varying understanding levels. A lesson plan will help group students according to their needs, and that will guide them on how they should be taught. When choosing games to include in piano lessons, should be done depending on the student needs. There are games for beginners and students who have taken more piano lessons. A good piano lesson also requires an effective teacher. The teacher should be able to play and demonstrate to the students during class lessons. A piano teacher has to be patient and an approachable character since piano lessons require interaction and encouraging students so that they can grow confidence to play on their own. Piano lessons should also include participation of parents so that they can be aware of the progress of their children, which is a motivation factor for students to improve.
Music has transformed a lot in society, with people becoming professionals and making a living out of playing instruments such as piano. As a music educator, I plan to understand the trends in music and entertainment needs in society, so that I can prepare my students for real-life practice. I will keep myself updated about the new music and continue training so that when I am teaching my students; it can be something I am familiar with. In my teaching materials, I will include videos of successful piano players and how they are earning a living from playing the piano. The instances will be a way of motivating my students so that they can concentrate on piano lessons, take them seriously, and not like the usual courses they need to complete.
