Speaking in front people is a difficult task that might seem easy to a viewer. I believe it takes a lot of courage, knowledge of the audience, and good oratory skills in addressing a public gathering. I also feel that speaking in front of an audience can be made simple by ignoring some aspects that might cause stage freight. Some of these aspects might include direct eye contact with the audience and dressing in a manner that does not inspire confidence in oneself. I also feel that other than having the right skills of passing a message to the gathering, it is also important to have a good voice that will appeal to the people throughout the presentation process. I am of the belief that good public speakers like Barack Obama undergo practices to sharpen their skills. To an extent, I hold the opinion that speaking well in front of people is more of a talent than a mere ability.
I have observed certain important techniques of good public speakers in the world such as Barack Obama and Oprah Winfrey. First, such speakers are critical about the composition of their audiences. An audience can be uniform or mixed depending on the gender, race, and sex among others. A good speaker will deal with each audience differently depending on their preferences. Good speakers have some level of organization in their speeches and in all situations remain coherent and straight to the point. On occasions, they might use personal references, ask rhetorical questions, or make an illustration or a quotation. They also use language that is easily understood and those that are sensitive to a given group of people. In some instances, outstanding speakers will employ the use of presentation aids such as handouts, graphs, and charts to emphasize their point and enhance remembrance.
