Growing up, the one festive season that I would wait for with all anxiety and anticipation was Christmas. I would spend half of my year thinking about it, and what intrigued me the most was the barbeque that my family would host by the beach every year. Most people would argue that Christmas is not Christmas without the cold weather, and the snow. This is because most of these people are used to the snow and coats and indoor parties during this festive season. This, however, was not my case growing up. And ours were also fun Christmas experiences alright. Although untraditional, Christmas by the beach turned out to be an enjoyable experience for my family and me.
Our summer beach barbeques were positively and absolutely the most exciting part of Christmas celebrations. These experiences would turn out even more perfect whenever the day at the beach was perfect for all the activities we had in line. But, tell you what, my family always managed to pull off the ideal barbeque experiences because they are very organized. They would approach beach officials as nicely as humanly possible and get us a pass. This way, our parties went unhampered with.

The closest thing that one gets to snow while doing a Christmas beach barbeque is sand, and we would utilize that appropriately. While we the kids went out playing and building sandcastles and drawing unimaginably less nothing close to creative things on the sand, out parents and close relatives would be hosting a BBQ. They were explicitly fond of grilling fish, kebabs and a lot of other kinds of seafood that I did not exactly like. I loved one food in particular, the bread that my mom would wrap around a sausage on a kebab stick and grill it just a bit.
The tradition throughout the years was, before and after meals, we would indulge in a variety of games. These were such as volleyball and football. The beach is perfect for these games, especially so because no one is a pro here. The sand is ideal at incapacitating swift movement, and that made it fun to play and watch. We also loved burying at least one of us in the sand up to their necks and take numerous pictures. After that, we would play board games by the barbeque site and enjoy the peace and tranquillity.
Beach barbeques were fun alright but also on some occasions, and they would turn out into a huge disaster. One particular incident, my elder brother, decided to take a swim further into the ocean and a storm hit from nowhere. He was nearly hit by lightning, and that scared the life out of all of us. The rain also successfully ruined a perfect beach party barely halfway, and everyone was lamenting on their preferences of a house Christmas party. But what is a party without a little thrill? Barbeque at the beach during Christmas for me at least was worth repeating. Imagine watching a movie under the stars at night, with the oceanic waves and sounds in the background. And not to mention the breeze. It would be heavenly. This part I was sure was everyone's favourite. Beach barbeque was my ultimate yearly Christmas experience.
