Love is a multifaceted thing; it can occur in different forms and be expressed in varying actions. Some scholars consider love as a decision while others take it to be a feeling occurring naturally. There is also a popular perception that love is blind taking nothing to account rather than its recipient. Others think that love is universally aware of things motivating it. Love by itself is a complication as people have varying perception about it. This essay looks at the various complications of love emanating from its different facets.
One of the major complications of love that is being experienced today is the narcissism epidemic that is being instituted by the much advancement in technology. Lovers in recent times have utilized technology in absurd ways and they no longer consider about the care that is supposed to be employed. Especially evident in the millennial generation, there is over reliance of digital platforms in pursuing love; people are using online sites to find partners and soulmates. Moreover there is self-obsession as a result of people becoming more Narcissistic. For instance, people are more attention seeking rather than caring about those who matter to them. People are more concerned with their own emotions and feelings rather than using love to improve on their partners, colleagues, relatives and other people they closely associate or interact with.

The new technology has led to the sprouting of social platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and the others. People are now sharing their lives and its aspects on these digital platforms. The youths and celebrities, in particular, are broadcasting so much of their lives that are traditionally supposed to remain private. For instance, social media enthusiasts and celebrities are broadcasting almost every moment that constitute their day. This is somehow a self-obsession as they feel they are so important to share mundane events as a show of how important they are. Others are sharing every moment in their lives like when they fall sick, have new lovers, go out dating, holidays and vacation, get married and such important moments of life. They do this to show how well they are faring and possibly they are important and nothing is mundane to them. Establishing personal relationships that are private may be complicated. Additionally most of their past is in the public disposal, this makes their relation with close to them quite complicated.
The next thing that is complicating love is investing into cosmetic surgery to look appealing. According to Williams (2016), cosmetic surgery is part of narcissist behavior, she views it as vanity, and it’s sad people are spending heavily on it. She reports that in 2015 there was a 13% rise of youths who participated in cosmetic dentistry just because they did not like the way their teeth appeared in selfies (Williams, 2016). The author terms these practice as vanity and unwarranted. There are also incidences where people have had parts or their body operated in order to suit a certain preference and objective. This points out to the level of desperation that people are in loving and accepting themselves or being loved by others.
The other complication of love is on perceptions; some people perceive that certain forms of love are superior to others and therefore disregard other forms of love. For instance, there are people who claim that the highest love of all is between friends. Others think the Love for God should be the most important in a person’s life. Others view the love for parents, spouses or relatives as the most important. Such variations on which love should be given a priority are causing complications and possible confusion on which of them matters in life. Others confusing perception includes the view that self-love is a genuine love. Some believe that it’s possible to love others after loving oneself while perceive this to being selfish and self-centeredness.
In conclusion, love is a complex ideas and the society is making it to be more sophisticated. Love should employ an element of kindness, thoughtfulness and right attitude to make it beneficial. Love is an action, emotion, a state of being and way of life. It takes effort, sacrifice, morals, hard work goals and right belief to make it successful. To make love successful the interests of those it’s being shown to should be put to consideration.
