Computers were introduced in the past few decades and have gained a huge amount of application and have become one of the most essential aspects of our lives. Computers today find an increasingly varied amount of application in our daily lives. Through the internet, one can simply sit in front of a computer and access a huge amount of information. People can perform several activities through the computer such as communication, doing work, and entertainment. These applications have made it possible for people to use computers in different places such as offices, schools, hospitals, and at home. Though computers have had significant positive effects, there are still some negative effects that should be considered. This paper analyzes some of the effects that computers have had on our everyday lives.

One of the effects of the application of computers in our daily lives can be seen in the workplace. In the past computers were not an office tool and the entire workplace was filled with huge amounts of paperwork. Office workers had the task of filing the information and would face an increasingly huge amount of challenges trying to find the files. The application of computers in the workplace has made it possible for people to store huge amounts of information on a single machine (Hashem, 2015). The internet has made it easy to share the information and different people can access the information from anywhere at any time. Computers have thus created a revolution in the way information is stored and shared. This has created a higher degree of efficiency for various business operations.

Another way where computers have impacted our everyday lives is through better communication and meeting of new people. Computers and the internet have made it possible for people across the globe to interact with each other. A large share of the interactions is usually done through the use of platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, and Skype. People primarily use the sites to reconnect with old friends and to communicate effectively with their friends (Chopik, 2016). Apart from simply communicating, these social media platforms provide a platform for people to share photos, videos, and other media content.

Computers have also changed the way people access and find information. Through the internet, one can find information about anything at any time. A simple search on the internet will provide one with a wealth of information regarding a certain subject. Scholars have especially benefited from computers by finding a wealth of research papers and articles through the internet. One can find information about any subject or topic through the internet. Apart from finding information, e-commerce has made it possible to find products online. One can find full information about a certain product online before making a purchase (Laudon & Traver, 2015). The information can be identified by looking at various reviews that have been posted on the internet.

Another area where the effect of computers can be noted is through the entertainment area. The film industry has especially benefited by having films edited through computers. The graphics and animations that can be seen in most films were done by computers. Most of the movies that have been created have movie effects that look realistic. A huge number of people all over the world can access movies and watch through computers. Additionally, game consoles and PC games keep a huge number of people entertained. All these games are programmed and played through computers. Music editing and video making are also done through the use of computers to create music effects and to edit videos. Computers have created a significant revolution in the way entertainment is created and how different people receive their forms of entertainment.

While computers have had a positive effect on our everyday lives, there are some negative effects that cannot be simply neglected. One of the negative effects of computers is that it can lead to health problems in terms of back and eye problems. People that use computers for prolonged periods of time sit could assume a poor sitting position and this could create back problems. It is recommended that people sit with their back straight every time they use a computer (Korpinen et al., 2016). Another effect of computers is that it results in eye problems. An individual that has worked on a computer for long may strain to try to read some of the words or could be exposed to a huge amount of light (Rosenfield, 2016). All of these factors could result in eye problems.

Another negative effect with computers is that they are highly addictive and people that use it could easily get disconnected to the real world and live in a virtual world. People that spend too much time on the computer have a poor relationship with those individuals around them (Bicen & Arnavut, 2015). People can spend an increasingly huge amount of time playing computer games and this leads to a deterioration of relationships with those around them.

In conclusion, computers have been found to have a significant effect on our everyday lives. The effect can be identified through the different positive and negative effects. Some of the positive effects that are associated with computers are including changing the workplace, improvement of communication, accessing information, and the entertainment industry. Computers have several negative effects such as health difficulties due to back and eye pains and can be addictive and cause a deterioration of one’s relationships.
