Good morning Willey College students, staff, parents and the community as a whole. I wish to take this opportunity to thank every one of you for taking the time to join us in the celebration of the success of our people. As the president of the Willey College, I take this great honor and opportunity to appreciate the efforts made by the Willey College debaters that made them achieve such a tremendous success. I am happy to share my pride for this great group who have stood out as a symbol of courage and great personality possessed by the Negro people in their determination to ensure there are justice and equality and end racism towards the Negroes. Led by Mr. Melvin Tolson and Dr. James Farmer and many other debaters, I can say that this group has demonstrated the highest degree of competence in their urge to achieve an equal society where justice for all is the theme. The work you have done in making this college proud cannot be underestimated, and I am proud to join others in celebrating your great achievements.
One of the things that made the Willey College debaters great was the way they were able to combat adversities with their voices, strength, and knowledge. Even though segregate laws existed, the debaters were able to break through the barriers with their determination and rise above all odds. What made the performance of the Willey College debaters was the way they argued about injustices and racism and its effects on the Negroes. By standing out strong and determined and by an illustration of their real-life situations, the debaters portrayed determination and confidence, not only in their voice but also in the approach they gave to the issue of injustice in the community. Through the intelligent display of their performance, the debaters made a great move to emerging the top.
