The world has reached a point where world war III might be inevitable unless the United Nations stand firm and address issues that matter most. A country such as Yemen is a no go zone with its lawlessness leading to a vast humanitarian crisis. Afghanistan is topping the list of manslaughter with 400,000 civilians and combatants killed in the year 2018. Other than that, tension is rising between America and China as the two economic giant are struggling to understand issues of international trade with each engaged in a tariff battle. Also, Iran and the USA are struggling with supremacy war with both threatening each other and may lead to a nuclear struggle. These are a few global challenges the United Nations must handle.
In the year 1945 at a conference in San Francisco, the United Nations charter was born. The brains behind the Chatter were Britain, China, the Soviet Union, and the United States. The main reason for the formation of the charter was global peace restoration after massive world wars that led to the deterioration of peace at the international level. Today, the United Nation has diversified functions which aim to address issues that are pertinent at the global level. As the main body charged with intervening on matters affecting multiple countries, the United Nations has a massive role in restoring the world and ensuring that critical issues that affect different countries do not erupt into yet another world war ( Helmy, Awad & Mosa, 2016).

Core at the United Nations function is the Development of the Common Heritage of Humankind and the Global Commons. The United Nations has come up with a concept of global common which are areas that are outside a national jurisdiction for military purposes such as seabed and space. Other countries often misuse such regions, yet they are a common heritage for all humankind. In this sense, UN assembly has come up with numerous ways of protecting such areas to ensure that people use it for the right purpose. In this sense, the UN has signed treaties such as the 1967 treaty meant to protect states activities on exploring space and other celestial bodies. Further, it was preceded by the 1971 treaties intended to protect the seabed, prohibition of the emplacement of the nuclear weapons on the sea bed and other global common ( Keesstra et al., 2016). These are meant to protect such areas for them to benefit not only a country but also other countries in the world.
Another role of the United Nation, which is also critical for humankind is the protection of human rights. For this reason, the UN charter has the framework and Substance of the International Protection of Human Rights, which ensures equity for all people. The UN assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights on December 10, 1948, a doctrine that has become a global bargaining point on matters on human rights. The U.N.Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and the Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights in 1966 have been adopted by the UN body to aid in championing for human rights ( Randolph&Allott, 2017). Regarding this matter, the UN asserts that human rights are no longer domestic matters, but international affairs that the states must take a keen interest with the help of an international body.
As the secretary of the United Nations, I envision a UN body that oversees economic matters, health crisis, peace, and also a balance of power within numerous states jurisdictions. I envision a UN body that ensures peace is supreme at the international level. Such is a body that provides that there is healthcare stability as this is part of ensuring that human right protection rains at the international level( Keesstra et al., 2016). My dream for this organization is to bring peace and champion for equity, prosperity, and togetherness of all its members and countries in the world. I want to be part of a UN body that would have the authority to intervene in cases of manslaughter such as those in Afghanistan, and also champions for human rights stability and laws in countries such as Yemen that are popular due to high rate of a humanitarian crisis. Further, I would like UN to have authority and place within the core of its program critical strategies to ensure society looks consider education, poverty, and gender rights among the member countries and other countries in the world.
Presently, the UN is facing numerous issues. Protecting the refugees come at the top. The UN has Sustainable Development Goals, were protecting the Refugees is part of them. The UN must ensure that the number of refugees is limited, and those who are unfortunate to fall under these categories get protection from injustice in areas of their residence. I would like to see UN assembly drafting laws pushing for legality and protection of refugees’ welfare. Another challenge is empowering the youth. Currently, over 1.8 billion youths are living in the world, with 90% of them from underdeveloped areas( Keesstra et al., 2016). Issues such as unemployment, limited space for economic and political participation are facing such youths. I would like to see UN pushing for legislation that aims at economic empowerments of such youths. Lastly, the body is facing a massive task of advancing peace in the world. Many countries embroil in economic, supremacy, social, and legal battle, and this could lead to yet another war. The UN has a big task of preaching peace. The body should have laws setting boundaries for countries and also enhancing togetherness in the world ( Ibrahim et al., 2015)
The United Nations has a massive role in preventing yet another world war that could cripple the world. Currently, the world has reached a point where a lot of issues are pending, which could end up with a lousy outcome unless the body intervenes at the right time with the right strategy. As the secretary, I would like to be part of an organization that strives to cater to such issues and stabilize the global stage to enhance proper planet for all. Thank you.
