The invention of a technique or gadget that helps quantify a patient’s pain will go a long way to ensure there are no patients who pose as being sick for their gains, for example, to access medication that soothes their drug addiction. Most importantly, it will simplify the prescription process because by knowing the amount of pain a patient is experiencing, a doctor can easily prescribe the right medication and not either an under or overdose.

I feel sad for Ann and LaShawn, who dare to request pain medication but can sit on a hospital bed, sharing manicure, pedicure, and snacks. My biggest concern is that while they should seek intervention that will help them deal with their drug addiction in the long run, they show up feeling entitled to be given the particular medication they are addicted to.
