Introduction 

Social media has recently been presumed to be more bad than beneficial. 

Thesis: Social media has led to the increase in vices on the various social sites such as cyberbullying which leads to the decrease in self worth amongst individuals thus affecting their mental health.

Social media has become a significant contribution to humanity. It is, therefore, rather sad that perpetrators have used social media to exert bullying.

Frequent and extensive exposure of the youth and children to such violent programming instigates violence in the community. 

Paragraph 2 

Additionally, prolonged exposure to social media has led to development of new and absurd beauty standards which has led to the increase in depression amongst the youth. 

Social sites have transformed the society’s perception of beauty. Consequently, people identified with certain values and features which are used as the standard measure of beauty alienating and discriminating individuals who do not have the stated features.

Social media has vastly transformed how teenagers present themselves on various social media platforms such as Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook. 

Teenagers have been identified to be the demographic group with the highest internet use. Consequently teenagers develop alter egos on their social accounts which present them as different people from who they are offline.

The development of social media has changed the way people communicate and live in the current era. 

Although social media was mainly introduced to increase communication and social interactions amongst people, it has, unfortunately, become the tool that has led to the deterioration of communication amongst people. 

Conclusion 

The detrimental implications of social media has led to the increase in critical mental health issues such as lowered self-esteem, depression, and lack of self worth due to the increase social comparison on the various sites.
