Coming up with a Hypothesis is critical in presenting a presumed relationship that exists between two variables and in a manner testable using empirical data. It is significant to aptly identify both the independent and dependent variables for hypothesis testing. For this task, the Hypothesis is: Applying stricter regulations on purchasing guns such as psychological testing will assist in decreasing the level of homicides such as mass shooting and the like. The hypothesis introduces an if-then conditional loop.

The relationship between these two variables is essential since it helps in determining the outcome of the hypothesis. The independent variable, in theory, is the application of stricter regulations in the purchase of guns. The tester has full control over the independent variable. The dependent variable is a decrease in homicides. The reduction in homicides only happens when a particular condition has been met else nothing happens. The level of homicides is significantly on the rise, and therefore it is essential to design to working mechanisms of controlling the menace. Gun ownership and availability could be a reflection of the different degrees of violence. If the guns remain a driving force behind the high rates of homicides, then guns availability and ownership should highly be restricted. That might, in turn, reduce the high mortality rates due to the shooting ("Cite A Website - Cite This for Me" 2018).

The hypothesis is testable since the application of stricter rules on the purchase such as psychological testing will immensely help in decreasing the level of homicides such as mass shooting and like occurrences. Other people can conduct the research and emerge with similar results. A lack of restriction on gun ownership will mean that more people come in possession of guns and that is quite dangerous to the security of a nation.
