Music forms an essential part of human life and has been existent for centuries, with use in an array of settings, especially for entertainment and passage of messages. It is evident that the educational field has hundreds of majors, all of which music finds a key purpose. Despite this, Music serves a key role in a nursing major, both for personal use by a nurse, as well as in the provision of care. The caring of patients not only requires the medications/injections but also needs applying none-pharmaceutical measures. One of the key none-pharmaceutical measures is music therapy, which has been noted as highly effective in healthcare. As explained by Li et al. (2014), “music therapy was found effective at improving cognitive functions, mental symptoms, and eating problems," among studied elderly dementia patients. Music works by touching the limbic system, which is key to human emotions. Though the rhythmic effects, tonality and sounds intensity, there is the stimulation of emotional reactions and production of states of well-being that subsequently favors calmness and improved psychological state (Li et al. (2014; Särkämö et al., 2014). Thus, in a significant manner, with the desire of nurses and other healthcare providers to realize positive outcomes in their patients, the application of music therapy ranks as a key tool in meeting the goals.

The role of music is also evident in the restoration of mood and the overall quality of life, both for the patients and also for accompanying families. Majorly, research shows that in nursing care, when compared to care types, singing, as well as the routine listening to music, improves the mood, personal orientation, and also the general cognition in persons (Särkämö et al., 2014). Music comes out as one of the soothing endowments that humanity has, which when applied in the right way has the impact of uplifting one’s the soul. Therefore, with variants of music, it is useful that as nurses and other healthcare workers, determining the most efficient music is essential. Hence, when faced with gloomy or sad patients/families, it is using music in care settings, it is possible to influencing a positive mood in patients.

Music is a critical means of communication in nursing practice. Primarily, with different patients under one’s care, there is the need in maintaining efficient contact, for better outcomes. With music, there is the realization of the overall desired communication, as music provides the means for the nursing staff to share with patients and families. Also, through music, patients and their families have an opportunity in sharing their inner emotions, and general meanings, which can be interpreted by healthcare providers (Nursing major student), in making better choices about the well-being of the patients. Music in a significant way can be used to pass a message, which when interpreted based on tonal variations helps improve the relationship or make changes.

Music is a healing remedy, especially when faced with distressing issues. Hence, apart from the application of music for the caring of one’s patients, as a nursing major student, music acts as a critical tool vital in boosting one’s mood and calming one down, in the midst of stressful work. Of the different soothing songs, one that emerges as highly soothing is the Mozart: Clarinet Concerto: II. Adagio, with a combined fast and slow succession style, the song is not only soothing but also elicits euphoric feelings in the mind of the listener.

It is evident that music is one of the essential and notable aspects of life, depending on the desires and tastes of the listener and singer. Primarily, by being in a happy mood, all due to music, there is an array of benefits which comes with the effects like social happiness, an improvement in one’s physical health, and the ability in having better relationships in life and satisfaction. Therefore, with music linked to instances of cognitive benefits, emotional well-being and other social benefits in the long-run (Särkämö et al., 2014), its application in a nursing major is vital. All that matters is hence the scrutiny and selection of the most relevant and soothing songs, all of which leads to better outcomes. Thus, in a nursing major, music is vital, both for the nurses themselves (male and female nurses), and their patients and families.
