When it comes to human rights and freedoms, every person deserves to have the right to choose what they want to do and what not. The same case applies to the freedom of joining the American military. It is no doubt that these great men and women lay down their lives to secure the liberty and future of America, and that serving in the military is a great honor, but Americans need to have the right to decide independently if this is the path they want to follow.

The 14th amendment of the American Constitution on liberty stipulates that no state shall make any laws that abridge the privileges of any citizen (Li & Brenan, 2017) . This translates to the fact that no state shall force any one person to do what they do not want. The right to liberty is the privilege for an individual to act as they please.

In the same light, no parent, or guardian, should force their children to do what they do not want, which includes joining the military. It is common knowledge the joy and pride that comes with serving America at such an esteemed role, and that veterans always wish for their children to follow in their footsteps by joining the military when they become of age (Steiner, 2017) . This is mainly to carry on with the family's legacy.

However, it is essential to observe that such service should come out of the free will, driven by love for one's country, and their passion for serving at such a level (Berlin, 2017). Therefore, it is crucial for every parent, and authority to respect the rights of every individual to decide by themselves what activities they wish to engage in, which includes whether or not they want to join the military (Hayek, 2017) . There are other platforms that one can still serve their country from, Such as offering or running vocational training, and working in the civil service. One's passion and free will should drive any of these endeavors.
