Mental illness is a condition that affects the mood, behavior, feeling, and thoughts of an individual while relating to others and performing their daily activities. They can be categorized as long-lasting or occasional. There are seven common types of mental disorders. The seriousness of mental illnesses is determined by the visible symptoms and the recovery duration. The following are seven common types of mental illnesses. 

Clinical depression. This is a medical illness associated with bad feelings sometimes. It displays the following symptoms:

A long-time of sadness, hopelessness, guilt, and thoughts of suicide. 

Failing to care about bad occurrences. 

Abnormal losing or gaining weight. 

Oversleeping or undersleeping. 

Lack of energy and slowness while walking and speaking. 

Loss of self-worth. 

Confusion, forgetfulness, and restlessness. 

Anxiety disorders. They make individuals fearful, dreadful, and have uneasy feelings. They display the following symptoms: 

Being "on edge." 

Worry and embarrassment. 

Muscle tension, headaches, and stomach aches. 

Trembling and sweating. 

Rapid heartbeat and chest pain. 

Dizziness. 

Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). OCD is an illness that causes individuals to acquire obsessed thoughts and rituals for things that they cannot stop or control. Its symptoms are: 

Repetitive thoughts on a failing activity. 

Ignoring losing events and activities. 

Unrealistic plans for success achievement. 

Bipolar disorder. This is a condition of intense mood swings. Some symptoms displayed are: 

Depression. 

Abnormal feelings of persistent happiness and anger. 

Special powers and superiority. 

Excessive talking, increased activity, and racing thoughts. 

Reduced attention. 

Inappropriate laughter and jokes. 

Wrong spending. 

Abnormally argumentative. 

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). This is a disorder/condition that often develops when people see or experience traumatic activity. It displays the following symptoms: 

Bad memories, flashbacks, and nightmares. 

Numbness. 

Avoidance of specific people, things, places, or activities. 

Troubling sleeping. 

Schizophrenia. This is a brain problem of hearing non-existing things. The symptoms of the disorder are: 

Hallucinations and delusions. 

Thoughts and speech disorganizations. 

Lost emotions and changed facial appearance. 

Reduced movement. 

Poor hygiene. 

Lost socialization and disregarding fun. 

Communication problems. 

Senseless problem solving and poor information development. 

Personality disorders. These are long-term patterns of experiences that often differ from what is expected. The common symptoms are: 

Mood swings and anger outbursts. 

Inability to control impulse. 

Attention seeking. 

Inability to make friends. 

Feeling misused. 

Ego-syntonic where an individual never accept their mistakes.
