Upon approaching the word theology, a lot of things come to my mind. First things first, theology concerns the study of the beliefs that are held by Christians and their practice (Karkkainen, 2003). The study is presented regarding what are the doctrines that they should abide by and what basic procedures should be followed. Theology in this context calls for the systematic approach of the exercise of faith, to its entirety and in keeping with the concepts that have their basing in Biblical teaching and values. Hence, it calls for the understanding of different faiths, respecting what everyone believes and not being judgmental to what the other believes even if it does not correspond to one’s belief.
The other thing that crosses my mind every time I hear a mention of the word theology is an understanding of how the universe operates in line with Godly doctrines. As such, it requires the full participation and understanding of God in three persons; the Father, the son, and the Holy Spirit (McGrath, 2016). Thus, in this context, God is a supreme being who gave everyone the functionality to be in his presence and acknowledge him every day of our lives. Through this, we abide by the teachings of the Bible as his word to human kind and respect to it in all avenues of Christian foundation. Thus, those who use theology in their daily means are pardoned and justified as children of God.

Experiences that I have before had with the study of theology revolve around the essentials of Christianity and what make up one to be referred as a fully-fledged child of God. Thus, this boils down to what characterizes our faith and separates it from mere beliefs. One of the experiences pertains to my relationship with the scripture. Courtesy of theology, I can now identify with the Bible as the source from which “we,” Christians, draw or exercise authority. As such, the Bible is God’s inspired word. Through the word, we can redeem ourselves as Christians in faith and believe that all the teachings and prophecies shall come to pass (Karkkainen, 2003).
Accepting God’s word provides humans with an experience through which they accept themselves as physical and spiritual beings that were created in his image (Karkkainen, 2003). Regardless of this fact, we have taken God’s word for granted and our daily transgressions are the daily norms. Thus, the extent of sin continues to fill the earth and can be seen in the form of sickness, suffering, and death. As such acknowledging that God’s Son, Jesus Christ, came to save us from our transgressions is one of the avenues that benefits Christians through the study of theology. His main purpose for coming to the earth was to save humankind from his sins.
Through studying theology, as a student, it is expected that I will be able to understand “who I am? Why am I here? What am I doing? How do I find the meaning of life and happiness?” The quoted expressions are the common terminologies that express challenges to human understanding (McGrath, 2016). Most people do not comprehend who they are and what is expected of them in the universe. Thus, through the studying Bible, I believe I will get an in-depth knowledge of what makes one complete ultimately finding fulfilment in life.
Studying theology will also help in making concrete decisions (McGrath, 2016). Challenges are there even when we do not expect them. They are things that just present themselves when we are or not prepared. When they present themselves, regardless how much one is prepared, and one does not have a solid foundation in God then they will overpower one. As such, theology will provide a platform that I will able to understand God to completeness hence in difficult situations be able to make good decisions.
