Motivation is the driving force or reason that a person has towards acting in a specific way ( Ignitum Today, 2012) . It is the ambition contributed by both internal and external factors. Motivation makes us look forward to a brand new day, be committed to a job or a subject thus enabling us to achieve goals. Making goals bases on the degree of desire or want your expectations and reward and incentives. The issue of having and maintaining highly motivated employees in a workforce or an institution has been widely debated . There are various theories on motivation such as the drive for money and the hierarchy of needs by Abraham Maslow ( Ignitum Today, 2012) .
What motivates me is the consideration of my cognitive needs and psychological needs. Also , the desire for self-actualization, completing my course work and acquiring and fulfillment are the driving factors that make me motivated. According to Maslow hierarchy of needs, it falls under five categories namely: self –actualization needs, esteem, love and belonging, safety, biological and physiological needs ( Ignitum Today, 2012) . My current self-fits under self-actualization in Maslow`s hierarchy of requirements whereby I am seeking personal growth and discovering my potential.

I endeavor to stay motivated though sometimes it can be an uphill task. I employ different strategies to motivate myself I enjoy doing things differently because a routine can be boring. I engage myself in extra curricula activities for example playing basketball. It gives me the synergy to forge forth and rejuvenates my youth. I set achievable short term goals for myself and regularly evaluate my performance. Work and no play make Jack a dull boy, and in retrospect, I go for field trips which are refreshing and leave me highly motivated to pursue my studies.
