“Study hard, you will get a very good job after completion.” This is a piece of common advice to young people when they are schooling. Therefore, they grow up with the notion that their success in life is tied to their studies (Staley & Staley, 2014). However, a significant number of people do not get their dream jobs according to what they studied in and they end up living a frustrated life. Others divert from their careers and pursue their fortune in other careers. Truthfully, many people have done and succeeded in different jobs other than what they studied in and it is not prudent for a graduate to stick to their line of study especially when they are not finding the right job.
As a young person back home in Nigeria, I always wanted to be an engineer and wanted to work for a great company like IBM. I worked hard in my studies and I managed to undertake a degree in software engineering. However, after my undergraduate studies, I struggled to get a good firm where I could utilize my knowledge. I opted to further my studies but the situation did not change. After many trials, I decided to venture into farming. The proceeds from farming have been satisfying such that I have been able to attain the financial freedom that I always wanted. Now, I am planning to start a software engineering consultancy firm just to satisfy my desire for engineering.
Delegate your assignment to our experts and they will do the rest.
To conclude, from my experience, I learned that a person can succeed in any job. Although it is a challenging undertaking to switch jobs or divert from what an individual majored in, we should be courageous to embrace change in our lives. I am strongly persuaded that an individual can succeed in any job provided that one understands its dynamics and give themselves to learning.
