Understanding Bureaucracy and the CourtsBureaucracy, as I came to learn through this course, is a method of managerially organizing a large number of individuals who have to combine their efforts in a single setting. I also discovered that several big institutions and organizations such as learning establishments and the government in most states depend on bureaucracies to be successful. It was evident that bureaucrats of the government perform several duties, including monitoring how candidates of the federal government raise money, fighting fires and providing educative services to the citizens of The United States of America. On top of that, government bureaucrats put into practice the laws contained in the constitution or the choices made by the elected government officials. It occurred to me that such duties are the work of the judicial branch of government. These bureaucrats may implement these said policies through scripting the laws and regulations, whereas, in other countries, they may govern policies directly to individuals. Through doing so, a term was given to the activities; Public administration.

Being a student at the School of Law, I can identify how bureaucratic functions of the government are divided among various agencies that render services to citizens. To begin with, I have understood that there are those agencies that aim at promoting good to the general public, such as the National Institute of Health and the Environmental Protection organization. Other organizations serve to protect the state. They include the coast guards, Central intelligence organization, and the armed forces. Lastly, other institutions help to maintain a tough economy, such as; Securities and Exchange Commission, Federal Reserve Bank, and the Export and Import Bank.

It is evident that the courts in the United States of America are an essential part of the law and order of the states. They are a peaceful way of maintaining law and order between the citizens of the different countries. They are held accountable to decide about action and how it took place. They pass judgments on whether an individual has committed a criminal offense or not and as a consequence, determine the kind of punishment that should be passed on to the individual. The sort of case, however, determines the type of court that will be used since some end up in State Courts while others in Federal courts. There are several types of Federal courts in the USA. I have learned the procedures that need to be taken to determine the kinds of cases that end up in different courts. First, there is the Supreme Court, which is the highest court of law. It holds the ultimate jurisdiction over all cases of the state and federal courts which involve some federal or statutory constitutional laws. The court, however, is not accountable over political concerns that cannot be justified.

The second is the courts of appeals, which are ranked below the United States Supreme Courts. As I have discovered, it is crucial for every law student to be aware of the fact that appellate courts do not have a jury, but three judges who rule over the cases presented to them. Also, I learned that the major function of the courts of appeal is to ensure that constitutional laws are applied in the right manner during trials. During the process of making new laws, citizens need to realize that courts of appeal are their way to take part in policy making because they cover for millions of citizens. By the end of my bachelor’s degree, I am now confident that I will contribute to influence the policies that people would love to be put into place because I would love to be in the Appellate courts.

Looking at the district courts, which are ninety-four in total, they solve cases through evaluating the facts presented by the case and determining guilt or innocence through the application of legal doctrines. Despite district courts being important, they are not one that I am very interested in learning because they are quite dependent on the Courts of appeal and therefore not seemingly captivating. There are the Bankruptcy courts which are specifically designed to handle cases of bankruptcy; whether personal, political, farm, or business bankruptcy. Therefore whether starting a business or planning to join a partnership, I would consider looking into the procedures of the bankruptcy courts because, in the current generation, one can never be too careful when it comes to money matters.
