To start with, being diagnosed with autoimmune type 1 diabetes at an early age of twelve may be debilitating to both patient and the parents, from the case scenario, there are different physical and psychological issues that the parents have to know in order to prepare their son for the condition he had been diagnosed with. Firstly, since diabetes diagnosis comes with a lot of emotional issues, it is very important for the parents to know feelings such as isolation, denial, depression, fear and anxiety, which are emotions kids often have when they realize they have diabetes (Patel, 2016). Knowing about these issues, parents maybe in a good position to help their son. According to McCance (2017, P.473), type 1 diabetes brings about weight loss and insulin deficiency to the patient, knowing about this physical issue, parents may be in a good position to take care of their son’s diet.

Hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism compare and contrast in a number of ways. First, the former is caused by the deficiency in the production of TH by the thyroid glands while the latter is caused by increased production of TH levels in the body (Huether, 2017, P. 466). In comparison, the two conditions are both autoimmune- mediated. Hyperthyroidism brings about increased metabolic rate whereby the body becomes heat intolerance (Walter, 2016). Hypothyroidism on the other hands causes destruction of thyroid cells in the body resulting in an increase in iodine uptake which is risky to the body.
