Personal Assessment
In the past, my reading preparation entailed skimming educational resources a few hours before assessment. My strategy is comprised of reading and memorizing fundamental points and concepts. This method was highly ineffective since I was forced to go back and forth, revisiting vital points that I had forgotten (Zadina et al., 2013). The technique was not only time-consuming but also tiresome. The reading strategy I utilized did not allow me to comprehend, ask questions, and decipher relevant information adequately. Whenever I failed to understand, I would re-read, lip-read, or read aloud that section out of frustration.
Review of Reading Strategies
After reviewing the resources provided on reading strategies, the suitable choice is the SQ3R strategy. In the first step, Survey, the reader must skim through the book in the shortest possible time to get a general idea and anticipate the author's intentions (Dartmouth College, 2020). In the second step, Questions, the reader develops questions from the paragraphs, sub-titles, and sub-headings. The third step involves comprehensive reading to establish answers for the questions developed during the initial stage.

Recall, the reader must try to remember through visual imaging what they have been reading in the fourth step. Eventually, the reader is expected to review the reading process and resources by going through questions, answers, notes, and the reading material to assess how much information they recall (Dartmouth College, 2020). Studying is a daily process that should be developed using aids such as flashcards and mnemonics.
Personal Assessment of the SQ3R Strategy
The SQ3R strategy will provide the effective techniques I require in reading since it can be used for all reading resources. The versatile method can also be used for digital material such as videos (The Learning Center at UH Maui College, 2015) . However, the SQ3R technique might be challenging as it requires a lot of time for preparation and review.
Application of SQ3R Strategy
I will apply the SQ3R strategy by scheduling specific study time and establishing a reading schedule. Since I am an early riser, I will read very early when it is quiet. I will monitor my comprehension by personally assessing myself using evaluations. Finally, I will follow my reading progress and take notes in the course of reading.
