At its core, plagiarism is copying without acknowledging the owner's efforts or the source of information. It is defined as taking another person’s work or ideas and expressing them as your own in academics. In some events, the presentation of the mother person's job as one's own maybe with their permission, while it is without their consent. Mosaic plagiarism occurs when a written work uses a borrowed phrase without quoting them. Self-plagiarism is when an individual submits the same position more than once on different occasions, while direct plagiarism occurs when an individual copies another person’s work word for word without attributing the work to the power or quoting them . Issues of plagiarism may affect students' learning skills and hinder their research and the development of their knowledge. Students' submitted assignments may be judged against plagiarism, and an index for similarity is limited in different institutions. In some instances, the proposed terms may be required to have at most five percent plagiarism. This ensures that the students learn to write their work and do effective research on assigned topics to enhance their learning skills. The issue of plagiarism would give the student a leeway to pass their exams or a test without putting in extra effort or accruing the required knowledge in the field being taught or researched (Pawelczak, 2019) . This has made the teachers and institutions find ways to curb plagiarism in the schools; for instance, students may be penalized by deducting marks for plagiarism. Besides their academic repercussions, plagiarism may also affect the students' performance later in their careers and jeopardize their toll. Plagiarism prevents individuals from learning, and if it goes undetected, it keeps one at an advantage over the other students who do not plagiarize (Dee & Jacob, 2012). Students who copy are likely to perform better than those who do not. However, when their peers discover their habits, they may lose respect for them and troll them for earning marks that they do not deserve ( Pawelczak, 2019) . If the students copy throughout their academic years without being caught, they are likely to struggle in their careers due to incompetence. The system trains individuals to be competent for future employment. If one copies their way through the system, they may face difficulties performing their tasks while at their jobs. This will affect their career growth and eventually risks their career due to underperformance.
Being caught due to plagiarism generally affects the students' future performance due to formed perceptions about their work's credibility (Mutengwa, 2019). In some instances, the students may be undermarked due to the perception that their work is not all theirs in the future tests. This affects their confidence, and it may eventually affect their performance. In this case, even when the student gives their best effort, they may also lack confidence in the exams due to the perception that their teachers or instructors may assume that the work is still plagiarized if they performed better than anticipated.
Plagiarism is an issue of concern for most institutions. It affects the performance of students in their future careers. Besides, it hinders their willingness to learn and accumulate more knowledge or develop specific tasks. Some may lose their confidence if they are caught, while the lecturers may form a perception about them. Schools have put measures like expulsions, plagiarism limits, and marks deduction penalties for students who are found to have plagiarized. This ensures that the students are trained to do their work and develop desired skills through research and earning.
