Based on the Bernice Case Study, identify the most relevant psychological disorder associated with her symptoms and explain your rationale

Based on the case study, the most relevant psychological disorder associated with her symptoms is fear and anxiety.Anxiety is a natural part of human life. When at the normal levels, anxiety keeps the functioning of a human mind and the body in general at the best performance. It aids the mind in making the right decisions and to avoid confusion in times of dilemma. However, when the anxiety exceed the normal levels, it causes the mind and the body of the affected person to malfunction. The people affected by the anxiety disorders show diverse reactions to the common factors surrounding the daily life of a person ( Lader, 2015 ). They find it hard to control the conditions that affect them because their anxiety is hardly controlled. In this paper, the discussion is about a generalized anxiety disorder as the main condition affecting Bernice.

Most people are affected by things causing them to have fear in life. The fear, however, helps such people in the way they carry out their activities. The fear makes a person be more organized because they fear to face the condition that might adversely affect their lives. Therefore, following their fear, they can plan appropriately for their future. The anxiety also helps people to maintain a good memory of the events ahead. It makes them stay focused on their plans due to the fear of failure. Although the worries are common all of the humans, some have the capabilities of assuming the worries when they want to focus on other things. However, some are not able to assume the fear affecting them. Such people are said to have a generalized anxiety disorder.

Bernice is suffering from the generalized anxiety disorder. She is constantly affected by fear of contamination. However, she does not have a specific cause of contamination that sets her into fear. She stays in a state of restlessness because she states that her mind is always filled with the fear of the uncertainties that would face her child. The fear causes her to practices various things which, according to her, help in the reduction of the threats that may accrue from contamination. Bernice is worried about several things. She has a fear of contamination, and thus she does everything to avoid the cases that may lead her to contamination. She fears excessively about it, involving even the additional factors in her fear. She is irritated by the ideas in her mind about the fate that could be faced by her child if due to contamination.

In your own words, explain what you have learned from the assigned readings about the psychological disorder you identified for the Bernice Case Study

After going through the assigned readings about the psychological disorders, I have had a realization that most of the people live in fear that has no way of helping them out of their strenuous conditions or out of their worries. Some of the psychological disorders are related to the feelings experienced by people in their daily lives. For instance, anxiety disorders can be related to the worries that affect normal people due to life uncertainties. Such disorders have positive effects on the people suffering them. The anxiety keeps the people suffering and confused when it exceeds the normal levels. Also,I have realized that anxiety can result in determination. That is why people keep their programs and activities updated due to the fear instilled in them by the anxiety. However, anxieties are most disadvantageous to the people suffering them ( Cuijpers et l., 2014 ). They cause worries but do not change the pattern of the happening of activities. Life moves on as it would have done without incidences of fear.

Treatment

Anxiety has been witnessed as one of the factors that affect the operations and behavior of people for years. Therefore, its effects have been experienced in the society for years. People have found various ways to curb the effects of general anxiety disorders. To some people, medications are helpful. The suitable types of medicines include the anti-anxiety and antidepressants ( Baer, 2015 ). However, some people are not favored by medical procedures. Organizing classes for the people suffering from a general anxiety disorder can also be used to help them control their fear through anxiety management. They also require counseling and guidance so that they are always motivated.
