Historical Christian Purpose of Education

Education in early America dates back to 1700s. In the colonial times, the Puritans demanded that parents were to expose their children to reading. In fact, it was mandatory for larger regions to have elementary schools where children could be taught how to read, write and know about their religion. Children from the wealthiest families in the society got the opportunity to go to school during the colonial period. Education was intended to cultivate unity in the nation. Books were published to allow a standard of spelling and pronouncing words so that students would be patriotic and at the same time appreciate their religious beliefs. In the mid-1800s, compulsory education was instituted among individuals so that children from all social classes were enrolled in formal education. This education was envisioned to enhance national unity and to help the migrants understand American values.  Education is a good thing because it has the capacity to change our lives and the world around us. Education gives us the chance to develop moral values or the potential to utilize our skills in an effective manner. Through education, we cannot benefit from the advent of technology. We can keep track and inform our skills to handle the dynamic innovations being witnessed in this contemporary world. Through education, it is easy to embrace diversity, particularly of cultures and religions. Education instills that respect for all the religious standings of individuals or their cultural values. We are able to demonstrate our friendly hand towards individuals from any part of the world. We become so rational through education so that we cannot judge people or undermine them based on their race, color, religion or culture. Education helps us to contribute to the economy of the country. The good communication skills acquired enables us to network with individuals who can invest their resources in our country to our advantage.
