Introduction

In this exemplification essay, I intend to show how cell phones have changed communication over the years. This essay seeks to highlight some of the major revolutions that have been witnessed between human communications, and how they interrelate with the introduction and use of cellphones. I shall give examples of these incidences and where applicable back it up with statistics.

Introduction of Cellphones

Cellphones emergence can be related to the development of cellular communication devices at around 1947. This development was undertaken by Bell laboratories and the devices were exclusively used in police cars. Dr. Martin Cooper is recorded as the first person to make a real cell phone. He successfully assembled a functional cellphone and made a call from a New York street corner in 1973. His prototype cell phone weighed two and a half pounds. It was around 10 inches long and had a battery that lasted 20 minutes. This remarkable development changed the way humans communicated and do businesses.

Today, nearly 95 percent of the world population use cellphones for communication and handling much of their business-related activities. Cellphones are now being used to make calls, text messages, create and send BBM messages, emails and even to send and receive direction. Additionally cellphones are used for surfing the internet, purchasing items and listening to music. Therefore, we can say cellphones have revolutionized the way people live, interact, and does communications.

How Cellphones Have Changed Communication

Ease communication

One of the major impacts that the cellphones has brought is making communication easier. Before their invention, humankind used to communicate using complex way such as sending a messenger, exchanging letters and physically travelling to a faraway land to get some information. This means of communication were slow and needed physical commitment. Later, in some developed countries there was introduction of landlines. This was a more improved from of communication but it was not portable. The landline was permanently stationed in a house or an office so communication was still difficult.

The introduction of cellphones made communication to be easy in the sense that it was portable and the users could carry it with them. For instance if somebody was traveling they had the chance to carry it with them and they would update their families and friends how they are faring. The cellphones made it communication to be free of boundary restriction, convenient and brought the ability to send short messages service (SMS). Therefore, cellphones changed the way of communication by making it easy to keep in touch and retain kinship ties despite the geographical difference between the participants.

Improve Interaction and Social Aspects

The fact that cellphones come with cameras radio and have capabilities for internet access has made people to have organized and well-maintained social lives. Through these phones, people can have better interaction in online platforms and social media sites. Such sites include Facebook, Twitter, Skype, Snapchat and LinkedIn. It its estimated that over 70 percent of the cellphone users have access to this social media platforms. When they use the platforms there is improvement in aspects of social life and people can do business with people from diverse cultures. This improves interaction and creates better opportunities.

Improved personal identification

The cellphones are now used to make mobile transaction and online banking. The SIM card is used as a unique personal identification means. These cards are fed with information about the user. When making transaction the banks can use the information to identify the client. This has also improved banking activities as clients can now use cellphones to access their accounts check balances, receive bank statements through the mobile phones. A good instance of personal identification is a recent development of IPhone smartphones, which makes mobile phone use to be more personal and individualistic. Such phones can be secured with ones fingerprint mark.

Conclusion

The emergence of cellphones has revolutionized many aspects of people’s lives and the way they communicate. The gadgets have helped to have more efficient and convenient communications; this has helped to improve interaction and build better relationships. The mobile devices, additionally improved communication by making it possible to find directions, send and receive SMS. Moreover, people can use it to make calls, do mobile banking and send email. It has saved on cost of communication and brought people together despite the geographical differences.
