At SAFFT, I work as a family success manager and my role is to supervise parental visits for those parents who have been separated from their children because of abuse. I believe that supervised visitation can be used as a tool for the promotion of successful reunification through the development of a positive relationship between the caregivers and the children. In most cases, the parents always want to develop a relationship with their children. For a good relationship to flourish, client-centered therapy is appropriate.
The client-centered therapy should focus on understanding the client, developing trust with the client, and remaining nonjudgmental. It is also important for the therapist to show empathy to the parent by showing understanding of their thoughts and feelings. Although these parents have been accused of abuse and neglect, the therapist needs to respect personhood as well as the dignity of the parents. This is based on the notion that we are sentient with feelings. The implication is that we have value and dignity that occur in every individual. Every parent deserves a chance to reestablish his or her relationship with their children based on the idea that people are unique and are always motivated to reach potential.
Delegate your assignment to our experts and they will do the rest.
Humanism argues that human beings have free will and hence it is important to listen to the parent. The client-centered approach that emanates from humanism should be focused on listening to the client talk and explain themselves in regards to the situation at hand. While working closely with families, I ensure that I uphold the dignity of these parents while encouraging them to talk about the problems they are facing.
